OK, I saw the video. I wouldnt say it proves anything since you cant even see the guy. You can hear him screaming like a little bitch, but you cant see what hes doing.

For all I know, the guy reached for the cops gun. I say its inconclusive.

Surprise surprise. This moron is now sueing (sp?) based on his claim that he was racially profiled by the police. It couldnt possibly be that he was refusing to show ID that the police got called could it?

All you have to do nowdays is

1) be a minority
2) do something stupid / illegal
3) wait for cops to show up
4) sue them for racial profiling.

After reading that posted article here are a few of my thoughts

1) At least some of the officers are in deep shit. I cant see how they can justify repeatedly tazing a handcuffed prisoner. I think the student / prisoner is probably a beliigernt idiot with a chip on his shoulder because he thinks everyone is out to get him for being middle eastern, but that doesnt mean he can be tazed over and over again while handcuffed.

2) There is no law that says an officer has to give out his badge number to anyone asking for it. Well, there may be in California, but I doubt it. Theres no law like that that Ive ever heard of. However, most departments have regulations regarding giving out your badge number. In my case we are required to give it to anyone who asks, but not in the middle of a potentially dangerous or volatile situation like this one. Afterwards, when things calm down, yes, we would be required to give names and badge numbers.

3) If an officer tells you to back up, you better damn well back up. In a case like this, the officer who pointed the tazer at the witness and said "try me" probably wouldve been justified in tazing the witness if he made any move towards the officer. The officers were greatly outnumbered and the crowd was becoming hostile. An officer doesnt have to wait until he assaulted until he takes action. Im not saying the witness was going to assualt the officer, but after the witness repeatedly refused to back up and with tensions as high as they were, the officer could easily articulate that he felt threatened.

4) This one kills me. There is absolutely no requirement to read someone their rights when you arrest them. People watch way too much TV. Miranda warning is only required if a person is going to be questioned in relation to a crime that they are a suspect in.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

I still haven't been able to find an article stating the student is sueing on grounds of racial profiling. Some articles state he is filing a lawsuit for police brutality however.

"Ice....I have seen videos of people being tazered. They do not recover so quickly. They can't get up if ordered to do so. "

Untrue. Ive been tazed and watched at least 20 other cops get tazed. The effects last last about 5 seconds after the tazing is stopped and you feel completely fine afterwards (unless you hit your head or have a bad heart or something which I dont think was the case here).

Ice...Can you turn the Tazer up or down to make it stronger and therefore more dangerous?

The guy involved was drunk. I am not sure exactly what killed him. There was a lot of press coverage.

What would procedure be on how many times you zap someone? It said in the newspaper that the officer told him to turn over and he could not or did not.

I think the major lawsuit is against the Tazer manufacturer who has deep pockets.
