No, you cant increase the intensity of the tazer.

Im not saying people havent died after being tazed. I know its happened because its already happened once here and we've only had them for about a year, but the tazer itself isnt killing people. I bet when the coroners report comes back it says the guy was also on cocaine or had an enlarged heart or something.

Im sure policies are different for different departments as far as how the tazer is used. People do get tazed more than once sometimes, but usually once is enough because the person doesnt want to get juiced again so they do whatever theyre told, not because they are incapacitated or anything like that.

Ice: I have to disagree 100%. The taser itself is killing people. Yes probably some of the people had enlarged hearts or whatever. Fine. But you can live with an enlarged heart. The thing that kills you is the taser.

Say you have hemophilia. Someone shoots you with a .45 and you die of blood loss when the doctors can't stop the bleeding. Does the guy not face murder charges just because you had hemophilia?

Tasers aren't designed to kill, but they do.

If the actual shooting itself was leagl, no the person wouldnt face any charges. If I shoot a burglar in my house and he dies because hes a hemopheliac, then I sure hate it for him.. he shouldve stayed out of my house. If I shoot a guy in a bar fight, and he dies for any reason including some preexisting condition, then yeah, Im screwed.

In other words, if the cop tazes someone legally which 99% of them are, then the cop is not introuble at all if the guy dies. The idiot shouldve thought abotu what could happen to his enlarged heart before he started doing whatever he was doing to get tazed.

There has NEVER been a case where it was proven that a tazer killed anyone. Theyve been tested beyond belief. No medical examiner in this country has ever ruled a death was caused by a tazer and they are the final authority on this. A tazer has been ruled as a contributing factor in deaths, but so has alot of other techniques that police use.

K3nt, the level of your liberalism never ceases does it? Dont do anything to get tazed and you wont have to worry about the tazer killing you. Its very simple. When a guy is swinging a knife at my partner should I ask him about his medical history before tazing him? Ive already said that the tazing in this case looks excessive to me from the limited info I have and without having been there..

I have no problem with this guy getting tazered. Seems like it was warranted.

What I do wonder is the amount of times your hear or see on the news about police using tazers on people. Just last week here in Houston a member of the Texans football team was pulled over and ended up being tazered by the officer. This was middle of the afternoon so it's not like a 2 am stop and he was intoxicated or something. I'm not debating if this was necessary or not because I wasn't there and he is a very big man. Just why is this happening so often? Tazers just really came on the police scene in the last year or so I believe. What did cops do before this? Did all of these situations in the past call for drawing weapons and possibly shooting people? It just feels to the average guy like me that officers have began to use tazers as their own personal punishment tools.

Just as a thought here, I never understood how people are doing something they know is wrong when it comes to police run in's. Then something happens and it becomes anyones fault but their own.

Reminds me of stories I've heard about where someone breaks into a person's house, injures themselves while in there, than sues the homeowner.

While I don't believe every cop is 100% on the up and up all the time and some might have "power trips". I think under most circumstances you should't have to worry abour getting tazed all that much if you just listened to a cop with what you're being asked to do.
