Global Warming: Weather Extremes

Postby Johnny Hughes » Sat Apr 07, 2007 5:47 am

I believe that all the weather extremes around the world are evidence of climate change and global warming. We woke up this morning to very heavy snow in West Texas! I do not believe I have ever seen snow this late. Even our occasional, rare dust storms are more exteme. Don't you see climate change and global warming in the weather where you live???

Yes, we do see it in Scandinavia to.
Spring comes earlier. Summers are warmer, autumns are stormier. A lot stormier! And still Scandinavia is one of the few places were the global warming is supposed to have postive effects with farming yield increasing as it gets warmer. And we do not have any problems with fresh water.

It will most likely be a a lot worse in Africa and Asia, where drought will result in worse farming, and famine. Not to mention weather conditions in the US.

And from reading extracts from the UN report it seems as that large group of scientists have agreed that it is not just normal variations. 75 studies on 29 000 series of data where 89% having the results in the same direction.

Well, it will take time for the effects to take place, and I do not have any kids, so I'll get that new SUV.

Smart cars are finally coming to the US...it's going to be really interesting to see how the culture embraces them (or not). They seem to do best in environmentally-conscious cultures...and if things go well, perhaps this could be a catalyst for getting them out of that SUV craze.

Smart cars are stupid.

Hybrids are a good idea, though, and I think once the technology improves to the point that the performance is closer to being comparable to the petrol engine they'll become popular everywhere they're available. I guess the concern with that is that there might not be the demand (currently) to drive the car companies to improve them.

great thing the americans slowly begin to realize things which are an old story over here. Sometimes one needs a couple of hurricans to wake up. But it's good minds are changing in america.

In 40 years nobody will drive cars with gasoline anyways, probably already earlier.
We have raising oil demand and are unable to produce more.

That explains why oil gets important in the next years.
Iraq has lots of oil doesn't it? Would bush have walked in there if no oil was there?

In a hundred years one might say
"year 2000, that's been the time where they had plenty oil and you could buy a liter for the price of a liter coke"

Here in Santo Domingo the temperature in BOTH January and February on this year was -2 and -3 centigrades respectively. It is insanely hot here.

Ask Floridians what they think about global weather changes, because they have been taking a lot f crap because of it.

Did any of the Americans of the forums watch "The unconvenient truth"? I've heard it is a a great documentary and for some WEIRD reason it was more popular outside the USA -a friend of mine told me that, it might be BS.
