The situation Ice or MG describes is where it pays to have position. If you are playing $1/$2 NLH and you called a raise that made it $6 to go now the pot is $13.50 and it is heads up on the flop with the 10-7-5. If your opponent's bet looks weak you can come over the top (or make a bet if he checks) fairly cheeply to see where you are at.

I think you shoud loosen up your requirements a bit. I'll call as long as they have >10x the amount of the raise in their stack. I don't think you need much more in the way of implied odds. than that. Yes having position helps, but if ever there were a hand that didn't require position its the sneaky set. As long as the flop isn't triple suited or a making an easy straight, position isn't going to be a huge factor.

Yes but alot of times something like this happens.

Hand from today. MP raises to $10 ($1/$2 blinds). 1 call, then I call in the BB with 22.

Pot $30. Flop 542. I lead $10 hoping to get raised but they both fold.

He probably had AQ or AK.

I need to be able to make much more than 8-10X the amount of the raise that I call to make up for hands like this and set over set hands and hands where he has QQ and the flop is Kxx.

Ice I dont see why you lead out into this pot??? A flop like that the preflop raiser is going to bet the flop more often than not, thinking that no one is playing those low cards and his AK or AQ is still the best hand. Than check raise or smooth call and hope he makes a bigger part of his hand on the turn. If it checks around I bet the turn with any card other than a 3. Any small card I make a weak lead and try to look weak and hopefully get raised, any AKQ I make a bigger bet hoping they just hit their AK or AQ.
