In Ed's book he calls a small stack 25 big blinds. My buy in would be $25 if the site allows it, if not there goes the trail.

I have done a lot of reading and research over the last five or six months learning the concepts that Govern No Limiit Holdem Cash games and I have no desire to become a short stack specailist. Also when I get a preminum hand or flop a set against AA or KK I want a chance to double up a big stack, not a small stack.

I do beleive however that there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to keep a short stack specialist (my term for someone who plays according to Ed's format) from making money other than agreeing with the other players not to enter a pot against them without AA.

If I am correct (and I beleive I am) with a slight modification I beleive I can use this system when I need to make a specific amount of money with a mininum amout of risk.

Miller lite system

Postby puterguy76 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:33 am

I'm posting a revised version of Ed Miller's system based on my experiences in case anybody is interested.

Miller Lite System
-------------------------------------------------------------
Buy in for 20-25 BBs
Raise 25% of your stack. Go all in on the flop

Raise

Any Position:
AA-TT, AK
Mid Position AQs
Limp (only for the price of 1BB)
99 - 22
Any 21 point hand or higher (Aces are worth 11 points; Face cards are worth 10 points; Suited cards add on point)
A2s - A5s
A6s - A9s (optional)
54s - 89s

Push Preflop

After a standard raise: AA-TT, AK (push)
After a Large raise: AA, KK (push)
After a mini raise (double the BB): Re-Raise to 25% of your stack.
After a re-raise: AA, KK (push)

When you get re-raised:
Push with these hands when the ratio of money left in your stack to the initial bet is:
3-1: AA-TT, AK, AQs
2-1: Any hand you raised initially.

On the flop:
If bet into....push
If first to act ... push
If checked to ... push
If you think you have the best hand, or can win immediately ... push

I used to raised Aj from almost anyposition but my huge losing streak (june) made me weaker and now I dont feel comfortable raising them. Raising all those hands from any position is going to make you very aggressive PF. PFR above 10%. That is always nice but after I saw Kenny´s and Ice´s PFR numbers I am feeling more comfortable with my 5.9% PFR. I think more is good because you get paid more with your BIG pockets.

AA and KK

Postby puterguy76 » Sun Aug 07, 2005 4:18 pm

Just out of curiosity Iceman,

I'm curious how you would advise playing AA and KK with a large stack. Would you make a normal raise preflop and continue to bet it down to the river?

What if someone goes all in on the flop?

Are you willing to lose your entire stack with these hands everytime you get them trusting that EV will carry you through?

How do you protect yourself against the people trying to flop a set?

If I raise preflop with AA and someone flops a set and I lose my stack to them, did I make a mistake by calling them down or did I make a mistake by pushing all my chips in myself?

This is were the EV topic gets gray to me. I know preflop it is clear you are a significant favorite but after a flop how do you proceed to play your AA or KK hands with any certainty that you're still in a positive EV situation?

Is it still positive EV to raise preflop with AA and wind up losing your stack to a set when you push all in on the flop?

Those scenarios all have "it depends" answers, but for the most part...no..Im not going to lose a full stack with AA if I bet the flop and the guy goes all in.

Quick Answer= AA is good to go all in. Not so good to call an all-in.
