Good or bad push?

Postby bigmott » Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:40 am

Hey guys..here's a hand that just happened to me.....$50 NL
I was in mid-position with [6d][7d].

Preflop:
UTG raised to $1.50, one call, I call...everybody else folds.

Flop($5.25) : [8s][5d][3d]
UTG bets $4. I reraise to $12. He calls.

Turn ($29.25): [3c]
UTG bets $4. I have about $28 left, and he has me covered.

I push.

Just interested in what you guys think, I'll let you know what happened later.

I like the push also. You raised his flop bet just like you would with a set and he called. he makes another weak lead and you push just like you would with a set. If he calls, you still have alot of outs.

You cant let people lead into you again on the turn after raising their flop bet.

I am kind of paranoid when it comes to chasing with paired boards. I almost never do it but when I decide to try, it seems that I am always drawing dead.

Against a decent player I make the move, I like it. But ithout reads on NL$50 I think it´s kind of risky. Anyway, you have about 14 outs taking out the [Qd] or [Kd] or [Ad] if that iswhat he has.

Thanks for the input guys.

He called my push pretty quicky with [Jc][Jh]. The river was a brick and he took it down..

After losing, I thought that maybe it was a bad move...like shobute said, because the 3 paired the board and he probably wouldn't believe me pushing with a full house. During the hand, my thinking was more along the lines of what Iceman said...."I told you I had a set on the flop, and now I'm gonna tell you again".

Just make sure you do the same thing when you have a set.

You more than likely are against an overpair.... therefore, you are pushing on the turn as an underdog. The only way the play is correct is if you can get a fold. Most players at that level dont lay down overpairs. I like a smooth call on the turn to see if you catch.

I hate big bets with draws that leave me vulnerable on the turn if I miss.

I think I either try to see turn and river cheaply or if I suspect both flush and str8 outs are good (as I would here against one player with a big hand) I'm pushing all in on flop. That way I'm getting my money in at better than 50% as I will see both turn and river cards.

If there was a third player along (not clear from your description) I might be worried about a better flush draw (there woun't be a worse one out there for sure) but if you are going to play suited connectors to a pre-flop raise and get heads up on the flop with flush and open ended str8 draw it's an auto push for me.

Anyways the all in push on the flop surely gives you better 'fold equity' :D

[The above is a joke btw - there isn't much fold equity here- a player who is overplaying AK or AQ here is probably bad enough to call anyway and the only other feasible hands AA-99 will not be layed down by their holders on a $50 NL table on a non-monotone flop.]
