10 / 20 NL - Set on coordinated flop.

Postby droqqa » Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:10 am

Have a full stack, about $2200. My opponents have about $2k each. Get 88 in EP and limp. MP limps, Button limps, SB folds, BB checks.

Flop [7c] [8h] [9h] Pot = $90

Checked to me, I bet pot, $90. MP calls, LP min-raises to $180. Hero?????

Likely raising hands for an opponent that are also limping hands from LP:

99, 77
98, 87, 97
JT, 65
TT, 66

Likely hands for MP: some kind of draw, probably a heart. Maybe a pair+OESD or a bare OESD.

I think you have to raise it to try to get rid of MP and find out where you are against LP. Say 350-400?

Hero re-raises to $500 or $550. Villain could have JT or 99. but he could also make this play with any 2 hearts....or 87...98...or 77. all of which you're ahead of. if he has JT or the 2 hearts it's also fairly important to get the money in now instead of later.

i understand that 10/20 is different from the stakes that i play...but that's how i'd play it.

What kind of read do we have on LP....does he min raise with draws or with monsters? Without a read I would probably pop it up to around $400...this should elimiate MP if he is on a draw....if MP cold calls the raise and the reraise, I would very much fear him. He could very easily have something like JT. All too often people worry about the person who is raising them and forgets the person in the middle who is just continually calling.

I cant let go a hand like that unless the board completes the flush.

I would raise to 400 and pray for a fold or a call.

This is a tough one. I am almost sure I am losing my stack to the 9s or the made str8.

hero calls and takes one off.

Don't wanna get too commited to the hand if the straight completes on the turn.

This is a tough hand especially since you are out of position. I agree that at least one of these opponents is probably on a flush draw, but raising to get this heads up will commit a good number of chips. There's 450 in the pot, you would have to raise another 400-450 or so to take out MP if he's on a flush draw...

And if they both call, and the turn is not a coordinated card, do you fire out and get pot commited, hoping none of them has you beat ??

I might just call, even if it gives MP great odds, and hope I get some help on the turn.

Since so many of you are advocating calling the min-raise - should I even bet out in the first place? Would check-call or check-raise be a better line?

no, i like betting out for information. By check/calling, people can be betting anything there. By betting, getting called and min raised, you learned a lot on what your opponents likely have.

I dunno. I still like a call. It looks to me like you are behind, and the board is hella scary. Waiting to see a friendly turn card benefits you a lot in the EV department. Especially if you're up against something like [Th][Ah].
