PL vs NL

Postby GooperMC » Sat Aug 27, 2005 10:37 am

I have been playing the $25 Party tables and have noticed that the PL games are generally juicer then the NL games. They tend to have a higher average VP$IP, higher average WtSD, lower average W$SD, and a higher average pot.

Anyone playing these games or is everyone sticking to the NL tables? If you are sticking to the NL tables I am curious to know the reason beacuse the PL games seem better to me (but I am a PLO8 player so what do I know ;))

I have been giving these tables a shot at Prima, but even though they "should" be juicier for the reasons you stated above I still for some reason seem to loose money instead of gaining it as I do @ NL. I cant explain y though...

Here's what I think I've got so far:

1. PL is more complex than NL. It requires thinking more chess-like. Betting is more complex.

2. Big stacks have more power in PL than in NL.

3. Position if even more important than in NL.

4. Big pairs are more dangerous. By the time the pot has reached a level sufficient to drive out the drawers, they've either made or missed. Big pairs lose much more often in PL.

5. The turn is the most important street. Because it's cheaper to see the flop, the player who wins most often is the one who plays post-flop better. An expert can have you dead by the turn, or at least way behind.

I could use some help understanding each of these concepts. Some writers seem to know what they're saying, but have difficulty communicating it clearly.

Finally, this quote, which makes sense but seems kinda eliptic:

The best advice I ever got about playing pot limit ....
* Don't lose the big pots*

Goop, we crossed posts. Does any of the above help?

Cash games.

I'm surprised that more people aren't interested in this subject. There's no reason why BTPers couldn't be crushing these games online, with all the talent we have here. Perhaps it's because only Party consistently has many (any?) PL tables running.
