Am I nuts?

Postby droqqa » Thu Aug 25, 2005 3:56 pm

10/20 NL. I have about $2,300, have opponent covered. Dealt [7s] [8s] in LP, raise 2 limpers to 100. The SB and one of the limpers calls.

Flop [As] [Ts] [5c]. Pot = $340. SB leads for $75, MP folds, I call.

Turn [As] [Ts] [5c] [Jh]. Pot = $490. SB leads for $85, I call.

River [As] [Ts] [5c] [Jh] [Qd] Pot = $660. SB bets $200, I raise to $800.

I dont think youre crazy, but its a big bet that he doesnt have a K.
I dont think hes calling you even if he has TT.

Now that I think about it, this looks very good. What hand could he have with a K that he would play this way?

I honestlty cant put him on a hand, but I think i can elimnate hands with a K.

Most people dont limp AK. If he did, I dont think he would be betting this weakly. he led for $75 into a $340 pot with TPTK with a flush draw avail? If he did and only got called by the preflop raiser, wouldnt he bet thru turn much harder?

KQ, KJ, KT? I cant see it being played this way.

I dont have the slightest clue what he has. The only problem could be that since Droqqa says he doesnt respect him one bit, the guy might call with a set or 2 pair.

Even though I held 2 spades, I put him on a flush draw. People who bet small into the raiser like that are pricing themselves in, hoping that the original raiser will not come over the top. I waited until the river, planning to raise big, so long as the flush didnt come.

My read was dead on - he had the flush draw. Unfortunately, it was the [Ks] [9s], which he showed to me after re-raising on the river. I knew exactly what he had - he just got lucky and backdoored the broadway.

Stuff like this has been happening to me way too often lately - my reads are dead on, but I am coming out on the short end of the stick time and time again. In all seriousness, in the last month and a half, I can think of over $20,000 worth of beats that I took where I got my money in with the best hand, where I was at least a 65% favorite.

Poker has been a real grind lately, I haven't cashed out in a month, after logging 2 cash-outs in back to back days.

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

I thought maybe a flush draw, but decided that wasnt it. Tough hand, but I dont blame you.

Maybe, but I think most people would be more likely to check raise with that.
