Obviously, the turn is where my problems start with this hand. A guy called a $7 bet on a Q9T board, I have to strongly consider the possibility that this guy has a Jack of some kind. Now he checks to me, which isn't really that surprising, because if he has a weak hand like a weak queen, or just a ten, or even something like 2 pair which has become somewhat weak due to the board now, I'd expect him to check most of the time, and I'd expect most people to check if they had a Jack trying to slow play me. So at this point, my rationale was that I should check behind because I have now picked up outs to the nut flush and if I make it and he does have a jack, being first to act after the turn checked through, he's gonna have to make a bet not wanting to risk me checking behind him, and it's gonna be hard for him to put me on the runner runner flush given the way I played it. The problem then is, by checking, if I don't hit a heart, I'm giving him a free pass to bluff a Jack on the river, I've made absolutely no effort to further define his hand, and cannot possibly call this bet on the river. In this specific case, I really do think he had a Jack, but that's not really the point, the point is, should I make a bet at the turn to take away his ability to bluff the river, or should I have played it like I did, accepting that I may be beat, but have outs to win?
