Got back from Gävle yesterday evening. Took only three and a half hours by train. Travelled in first class since it was so cheap (like $4 extra) but didn't get any complimentary coffy, magazine, neckrub or anything. At least it was pretty much kid free.

Had a great time up north. Stayed with a friend at his familys summer house in a small guest cottage overlooking the sea. First day we settled in, second day we went to see an old friend of my girlfriend who runs an inn. It's an old country estate from the 1700 hundreds. Was treated to some food and coffy, then we went to his place and were treated to some more food and wine. A bit too heavy on the mosquitos outside though.

The day after that we went to a small zoo. It was quite awesome. It focused mainly on monkeys, but had kangaroos, reptiles and stuff as well. What was so good about it was that you were allowed extremely close to the animals. If you wanted to you could just step over the thigh-high wodden fence and try to climb into the kangaroo pouch. The monkeys were incredibly cute, especially the small ones.

In the evening we visited some more friends of my girlfriend (she went to university here), were treated to some desserts and drinks and were bothered by their three children. The day after that we just hung out with my friend, walked around the town, and went home.

So today I sat down to pick up were I started, crushing the PLO8 tables with my elite skillz. Things didn't really work out like that and I was down $60 before I decided to hell with this (for now) I'll try out my brand new "Stoneburgs Supersmart Shortstack System" in NLT and play some LO8 $2/4 on the side. That worked out a lot better and I erased the defecit and replaced it with a small profit. Unfortunately this journal is about the Pot Limit Omaha so instead of bragging about my incredibly clever preflop pushes in Holdem or valuebetting in LO8 I have to present my embarrasing PLO8 losses.... let the horror begin:

The Biggest Loss of The Day:

Party Poker

Stack sizes:

BB: $17.93

Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is MP2 with [Ac] [8s] [2h] [Th]
UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to $0.85, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.85 (pot was $1.2), 3 folds, SB calls, BB folds.

Flop: [Td] [6h] [2d] ($2.8, 3 players)
SB checks, UTG+1 bets $2.7, Hero raises to $10.8, SB folds, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: [6c] ($24.4, 2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero checks.

River: [3h] ($24.4, 2 players)
UTG+1 raises all-in $14.15, Hero calls $14.15 (pot was $38.55).

Results:
Final pot: $52.7
UTG+1 shows 3d As 4d Ah
Hero shows Ac 8s 2h Th

I think I played this absolutely awful, but then again, I'm a stinking newbie in this game so what do I know?

Preflop raiser seemed very tight (11 vpip) so I had him firmly on AA. Obviously I think I am ahead on the flop but I really want him to fold. I figure AA2x and A2 should get the hell out when I raise. On the turn I realise I am screwed and check behind hoping to boat up, I don't know how the hell I find the call button on the river.

Probably frustration from losing a 3-way all-in on the flop against a maniac with TPGK and nothing else, and another guy with middle pair and a flush draw. I mis-read my hand in that one, thinking *I* had the nut flush draw to go with my TPTK + nut backdoor low draw. Had my hand been what I thought it was I would have been a huge favorite, as it was it was slightly -EV. The middle guy managed to hit a runner boat with his middle pair and scoop. Now to something less depressing.

Uncalled bets: $12.61 returned to Hero.

This was against the maniac that I was all-in with 3-way in the hand I lost. Honestly... what the HELL can he be calling with that doesn't call that river with those pot odds?! T8?!

I played pretty bad after losing 3 stacks in 5 minutes... or did I lose 3 stacks in 5 minutes because I was playing bad? Probably. Either way, my stats look really crappy and I'm going to have to improve on this. My new goal is to scrape up enough for a two-week vacation somewhere in Europe (for two) by this autumn. Should need about $2k for that so I have my work cut out for me. Obviously need to do better than this:

Game: PLO8
Hands: 615
Vpip: 27.6
Pfr: 3.7
Result: -$60

The lady of the house is working the night shift but I'm tired of poker for now, after 4.5 hours, so I think I'm going to get into bed and watch either "The Running Man" or "Rollerball". That's some quality movies right there.

Almost five in the morning, I'm pretty tired so I'm going to try to keep it short. Which is good, since I probably have the longest averag posts on this forum after starting this journal.

Sat down before midnight and started playing my new shortstack system for NL. Played at Doyles for a while to try and clear my bonus. The interface is cute and all but there are several things I don't like about Doyles:

1. It's slow. Way too long pauses between hands.
2. 4 tables max. That's no good for a shortstack system.
3. Not resizeable windows! I know.. only party has that, but everyone should damnit.

Anyway... slight loss there. People are crazy, calling with all sorts of junk, and either I didn't have anything or what I had didn't stand up. Got bored and left for Party. 6-tables there for a while and finished up $21. Goes into the 'mjeh' column. Was going to call it a night after four hours of this for 20 bucks profit, but got an urge to play something that's more stimulating than pushing preflop in Hold'em. Already played Galactic Civilisations II for several hours today so I sat down at 4 PLO tables instead when I saw that one of my buddies were on.

Unfortunately I had to sit to the left of my buddy, but that didn't matter much since he left almost immediatly. I haven't showered today, could have been that I guess. Had a pretty mediocre start and was down $10 before I started winning some pots. Posted two hands here: http://livepokerforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16220 that were pretty interesting. I think a big part of the profits comes from being able to get away from middle and bottom sets, it doesn't seem like many can at the $25's.

I said I would keep it short (and failed) so here are the hands...

Turns out I am BEHIND with my AAJT preflop against this guy. I didn't even think that was possible. You live and learn.

This one obviously looks extremly donkish... and maybe it is. I just thought "F-ck it, he's a moron" and pushed. This was his 8:th hand at the table and he had played *every one*, and lost against a shortstack by calling a raise with AQ95 and then the shortys push with a Q high flush draw (shorty won with a pair of 6's). I normally don't play such a janky KK hand against a raise but...

Stats look a bit loose mainly because a lot of the tables were shorthanded, I don't think I played too badly:

Hands: 201
Vpip: 33
Pfr: 5.5

Result: +$51

How's that for keeping it short? I'm off to bed.

F.uck, piss and shit.

Had a decent morning session, won $48 playing some shortstack NL and some regular PLO. 2 hours is pretty perfect for a session. Then two hours ago I ventured back. Since my winnings lately are mainly from PLO I sat down at 4 tables. I make a profit playing all the games (PLO8 being the exception) but my winrate is quite a lot higher in PLO.

Texas: 5-6ptbb
SnG's: ROI 30%
LO8: 2ptbb
PLO: 14ptbb

It's a pretty big difference. As you may have guessed from my opening remarks I did not improve this winrate by playing a later session, instead I pissed away a bit over 3 buyins. Usually I don't get too upset but for some reason it got to me today and I was quite pissed off when I started typing this. I'm a bit calmer now.

This would have been my 7:th straight winning session which I guess would have been nice. However, I do have a habit of manufacturing winning streaks, quitting too soon when I am ahead or manage to dig myself out of a hole. So maybe it's a good thing. This year a little over 70% of my sessions have been green, which feels kind of low. I guess it is about normal for a winning player but still...

Anyway, don't even have enough energy to whine about it. I'll post my hands and then I'll go make some tacos.

Not many hands on the villain but I got the sense he was aggressive and would try to steal with non-premium hands. When the turn came I figured I was home safe since I had him on a set/two-pair sort of hand. Should teach me to try and read hands...

Ok, something positive and quite unlikely then...

How amazing is it to have AA hold up against 3 players? Has it ever happened in the history of Omaha?! Can't be bothered to check the equity right now but my experience tells me I have about 0.03%. Ironically I lost my last stack of the day, on the last hand of the day, with the exact same hand, AA83s. I managed to get most of the chips in preflop, leaving me with half a pot bet on the flop and of course I got called by JT86 who had picked up bottom pair and a gutshot. GG.

OK, f-ck this for a load of pancakes. I need food and non-poker entertainment.

Stoneburg out.

I'm slightly annoyed. Didn't update the journal after the last session but figured I'd be a good boy and do so today, so twice as many HH's in one post. Unfortunately, not such a happy story so far.

As far as I can recall I have never started a month with three straight losing sessions until now, hopefully it won't be a fourth tomorrow. Since I ended last month with a losing session this makes for a total of 4 straight ones, also a record. Hopefully one that will stay unbroken.

Good news, my shortstack system is working nicely at 5-6ptbb/100 after 3.5k hands. Bad news, I obviously suck at Omaha <insert sounds of surprise here>. Omaha is what the four sessions have in common (except for the other obvious thing).

After being such a winner at the $25 levels and getting some encouragement on this site I decided to play one $50 table together with my 3 $25 tables. I set a stop loss of $100. After one hours play I had won a sum total of *Zero* showdowns. That's right, I checked PT and my "W$SD" was at 0. My "went to showdown" was at 8% or so. So basically I hit nothing, and when I did I lost the hand. After an hour and a half I had reached my stop loss and stopped playing, $100 down. I was up one stack at the other tables so the sum total of my loss was only $77 but needless to say, this wasn't exactly the start I had hoped for.

Biggest Loss at $50:

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.25/$0.50
8 players

Stack sizes:

MP2: $35.50
CO: $32.63

SB: $81.46
BB: $48.50

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is Button with [Ts] [Ah] [4s] [6h]
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO folds, Hero calls, SB calls, BB checks.

Flop: [7h] [6s] [2h] ($3.5, 7 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets $1, Hero calls, 2 folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls.

Turn: [Td] ($7.5, 4 players)
UTG checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets $7.15, Hero calls, 2 folds.

River: [7s] ($21.8, 2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $20.75, MP2 calls.

Results:
Final pot: $63.3
Hero shows Ts Ah 4s 6h
MP2 shows 8h Ks Kh 9d

When the guy made a gay bet on the flop then a real bet on the turn I was 99% sure he had 98. Maybe my bluff on the end was stupid? I guess a set would have raised the flop so the boat seems unlikely (of course a 6 or a T would actually have given me one). Anyway I don't think I played it horribly, easy call on the flop, on the turn I pick up 4 more outs AND I know exactly what my opponent has. He was all over me with insults obviously *very* angry that I tried to steal the pot. It turns out he hates "thiefs", yeah, for sure, it shouldn't be allowed to bluff in poker.

Pretty ugly I guess. I figured he would check/raise with a set and this could well be a smaller overpair or just a donk bet. Probably still best to just fold it since he could well have AA or a draw that is ahead of me like 9875. Still, I dont like donks donkbetting into me and I guess this will give me an "unbluffable" image.. or people will just think "Well duh, he had KK, of course he's gonna call", what do I know. Of course this is a quick and easy fold if he's not short.

Well, going to a party in a few minutes. Maybe I'll play some when I get back unless I feel drunk. Tomorrow I'm taking a sail-flying lesson... hmm.. maybe I shouldn't drink so much tonight then.

Awesome present.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Whoa.. someone actually reads this journal?

Yeah, awesome present indeed. Unfortunately todays session was postponed. Will try again this week and let you know how it was, if I survive.

Instead of gliding I ended up grinding. I'm guessing gliding is more fun. Especially when you rack up the fifth losing session in a row. Hopefully it will be a record that is hard to beat. My shortstack system actually failed me for the first time today, another sign of impending doom to my bankroll? We will see. Just a slight loss of $8 but still annoying since it was mostly due to bad beats. My favorite was getting it all-in with AKs against KJs and AQo. Could I ask for a better situation? Of course a Queen flopped and I was robbed of my tripple-up.

On the Omaha front things have been even worse. I lost two buyins today. At the moment I can't say if it was from bad play or bad luck, I would guess both. I refused to leave the table (2 Omaha, 3 Texas) as long as the super fish was there. He plays more than 90% of his hands, raises 15%, chases gutshot.. you name it. He's wonderful, and by far the biggest loser in my database. Of course even though he lost as usual, he actually made a profit from me. Most memorable will be his all-in preflop call with 9722 against my AA.

I'm probably overplaying my AA hands. I usually try to get it all-in preflop as best I can, but not only do I tend to lose then (3 out of 4 times today) but if I don't get it all-in preflop I'm usually lost on the flop. Real trouble hand for me. Here's what one of the debacles looks like...

This was pretty much my last hand and I had just previously promised myself to stop being so aggressive with AA preflop. Then I thought "F-ck it, I'd double-suited FFS!!". Turns out my equity in this 4-way pot is a pretty huge 40%. Look at the shit they're getting it in with. I don't feel bad about raking in this pot let me tell you... The guy with AK42 off suit is the superfish.

After this hand the table died and I decided to speed up my shortstack experiment by playing 9 tables of Texas instead. Kind of hard to keep up with and I often ended up sitting out, having to post in CO, which eroded my profit somewhat. Or lack of profit. Or whatnot. Anyway, result was..

PLO:
vpip: 32% (bit high)
Pfr: 3.2% (bit higher than usual)
ptbb/100: -27 (yeah, not my proudest moment)

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Wow, haven't posted here in half a year. Ran across it by accident and looked through this time capsule with nostalgia. I figure it is time for an update and some old fashioned thread necromancy.

The general election came and went. Some of you may know I'm active in the swedish enviromentalist party, we made some progress nationally but the left lost to the new right wing alliance in the parliment so we have a new government. On the municipal level things went splendid however and we are now part of the ruling coalition, together with the social democrats and left party. On a personal level I've been entrusted with representing our party and the electorate in the committe for adult education and the work market, as well as the culture and sports committee. I've also been made a magistrate, which was a bit unexpected honestly since the average age of them is around 60.

Poker life has changed a bit too. I've practically stopped playing at "foreign" sites since I discovered the government-owned "Svenska Spel" which is the Swedish site. It's a virtual fish tank and has only 2.5% rake so despite having no PT support it's hard to find a reason to play elsewhere. A few days ago I cashed out almost 90% of my bankroll to pay off an old student loan debt. Before that I had managed to move up to the sweish version of NL $300 in Texas and NL $100 in the Omahahaha games. Now I've got less than $1k in the account and need to drop down to a level more suitable to my bankroll.

This is a reoccuring theme in my poker career really. Build up, move up, cash out, start over. It would be nice to be able to keep a bankroll big enough to play the higher stakes but somehow I always find something to spend it on.

So where is my game at?

Well I feel I am playing Texas really well at the moment. I'm winning at all the levels I play at and even though Pot limit and No limit are my strongest I'm now also semi-competent at Limit after playing that for a bit, reading and coaching my girlfriend. I feel I can switch gears, adapt to opponents and pull off some moves (who won't always backfire).

Omaha is still fun although not quite as new and exciting. I feel reasonably comfortable playing PLO up to the $100 level. At the site I'm usually forced to play PLO8 though, which even after playing it a lot I still don't feel like I have grasped it completely. I'm probably one of the better players at the table, but not because I'm any good, just because the others are completely retarded, playing hands like 479K and re-raising with A4TK. Somehow the inner mechanisms of PLO8 still elude me. My favorite Omaha game is still LO8 but unfortunately there's never any games going.

I've also tried some 7CS. If I could find the guy who invented that game I'd break off his teeth with pliers and urinate on the stumps. It's the only poker game I just can not make a profit at. The table selection is excellent, I've got tables where 80% will stick around until 5:th street and people will chase with any pair or any draw, but I just can't have a single hand stand up. So far I have been rolled up 3 times and lost every single time. This game just blows huge chunks of diarreah.

For februari I set a goal of 40 hours and a target winrate of $30/hr for a result of $1200. That was however before I cashed out the main part of my bankroll so I am not sure how attainable that goal is now. January I had a winrate of about $45/hr but now I will be playing at 1/3 the stakes. I also ran pretty well in january having only two losing sessions out of 13.

Ok I'm not sure if that brought everything up to speed or not. I'm sitting here in my sweats and waiting for my gf to get home within an hour. She's been up north for a wedding for the weekend. Of course I have turned the place into disaster zone while she's been away so now I'm putting off cleaning up by raising my journal from the dead.

Alright. Enough recapping. What's on for the future?

Well I was surprised to find out people actually read this journal. I assume Beavis is checking it a couple of times a day hoping that I will post pics of myself that he can masturbate to, but other than that I mainly thought I was writing to myself. Since there has been such overwhelming support for me restarting it (read: one guy posting to that effect 3 months ago) I feel I can no longer rob you of semi-regular updates of my life and bathroom activities. Since I now have less than one hour to clean the apartment, wash the dishes, shave and shower, walk the dog and get ready for sex I will just throw out some random HH's here. The focus won't be only on Omaha now but on all the games I play.

You win some...
PLO8 $100

I've got [Ah] [2c] [Td] [Qc] in the CO.

3 limpers to me and I make it $4, BB call as do all the limpers. Pot is 5-way.

Flop comes [Jd] [8d] [Tc]

Checked to me, I take a free card.

Turn is the [6c]

BB checks and UTG bets $6 into the $20 pot, everyone calls to me and I raise pot to $50. Everyone folds.

You lose some...
NL $100

KQo in late position. Shortstack open limps, I raise to $4 and get two callers behind me plus the shorty.

Flop comes [Js] [4s] [Kh]

Checked to me, I bet $25 (slightly more than pot) and get one caller with $65 behind me and the shorty calls all-in. Turn is the [7d] and I push and get called. Shorty has [9s] [6s] and the other guy has [As] [Qs]. River is the [Ts]. Duh.

Ok I really really got to start cleaning up both the apartment and myself now. I also feel a loose aggressive bowel movement coming on so until next time...

Well just to keep the journal interesting I decided to drag my winning streak out in the rice fields, shoot it in the neck and sodomise the corpse.

I was for sure the fish at the table today and managed to dump almost 6 buyins in a little over one hour before finally calling it a day. Two examples of my play, both are at $20 PLO but I'm typing it like it was $100 because it is easier.

You win some...

I've got [Ac] [Jd] [Js] [Qc] on the button.

Two EP limpers and then MP raises to 5.50. I've only been at the table for a few hands but he has already raised several hands so I'm sure he's raising light. One caller and then I pop it to 25.50, the UTG limper cold calls and everyone else (including the raisor) folds.

Flop comes [4c] [9c] [Qd]

That's mine! He checks, I pot for 65, he calls. Turn is the [3d] and he donks for my last 4, which I of course calls. Turns out I'm not drawing, he has [Qh] [7h] [7c] [6c] and I out-kick him to double up.

You lose a lot...

Same raisor as last hand. He's pissing me off and winning a lot of pots. I got a double stack from last hand, he covers.

He's UTG+1 and raises the UTG limper to 4.50, two callers and I re-port to 25 with AAJ5r. Everyone folds except him. Flop comes T92 with a flush draw and he check/raises me all-in. I call and he has TT83 for top set and I go busto for two stacks with an unimproved AA. GG Stoneburg you assclown.

I'm going to formulate some rules for my hand selection for next time because I feel my preflop game has deteriorated due to this soft opposition. I've been running hot and getting away with playing trash, without PT showing me how dumb I (probably) am.

Need to shape up before I go bust. Well I have 35 buyins for this microlevel but I want to get back to the 100's asap so I need to kick up my game a notch (and start running good again of course).

Taking the dog and GF for a long walk. It's 9 below freezing and pretty nice outside. After that it's pizza and a movie. Fuck poker for a while.
