So I catch a set, and bet the pot on the flop ($4 into a $4 pot). He calls and then pushes like $200 into the $12 pot when the board makes a weird straight possibility on the turn (gutshot only got there), something like a J475 board. I say "gotcha this time" and call ... and he flips the straight.
And I start thinking ... maybe his line is a good one. Every time you have the nuts, or close enough to the nuts that you're sure you're ahead, just push in. Every time you can put your opponent on a reasonable range of hands, and you just know you're ahead, just push. Every time. Doesn't matter what the pot size is or anything else. Just push. Nobody will call you the first 3-4 times they see it. But you keep doing it, they'll start thinking "he must be bluffing this time." And eventually someone will get fed up and call and get stacked.
I don't know, it sounds stupid. But I tell you, as an opponent, it's incredibly irritating to see someone keep doing this and "getting away with it." You put a target on their back and resolve to call with any two decent cards the next time you see it. I was so sure I was ahead of this "moron" when I caught my set....
