I have no problem with McGwire being omitted on the basis that he took steroids. Fine.

Presumably that means no Clemens either. Fair enough. But I don't see how they can have it both ways (and they will....).

Bah, wrote a sweet post and then the computer ate it.

Summary.

MM was always the same hitter

Look at his senior season at USC. He hit 31 homers in 65 games.

His first full year (1987) is off the hook, he hit 49 homers. He only hit less than 32 once (22) between 87 and 92.

He got hurt and had to come back, then he went off.

He was still a very good hitter before the juice.

And how many of Whitey Ford's wins came via an illegal ball? Or Gaylord Perry's via the spitter?

How many Mantle homers came about via stolen signs? According to this article - http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.c ... e=20030511 Tony Kubek says about 50. Nice.

Cheating has always been around in baseball and always will. What MM and Bonds and whoever else did was no worse than any other player has done, IMO. I say it was less so because it was not against the rules of baseball, and that is all that should count for HoF induction.

No offense but that article is worthless when it comes to facts about Mantle

a third party estimated that someone else who was good at stealing signs helped mantle hit 50 dingers.

Call me skeptical

I never said McGwire shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame for the exact reasons you stated, No one has proof, just speculation. In fact if you look back at the start of this thread I said it was a tragedy he wasn't voted in.
