where is the substantiation that the US provided that stuff to Saddam?
Part of the reason the US did some of the shit it did in the region in the time to to lessen the influence of the Soviet Union who had a strong relationship with Egypt, Syria, and Jordan and was trying to get into bed with Iran.
You guys look at this stuff in isolation without any idea of what else was going on politically at the time.
Stoneburg particularly has a fascination with trashing the US for being short sited without any recognition of the short-term thinking of Europe and the peril and money the US has gone through trying to stabilize the region and keep Europe safe.
The US took the brunt of the economic damange of going after the Soviet Union, and during the Yom Kippor was Europe did everything it could to block the US from giving aid to an Israel that came close to being overran by a Soviet backed Syria and Egypt to avoid an Arab oil embargo. The US put it's short term ecomonic interests aside and when through great effort and expense to rearm Israel inspite of the best effort of Europe to block US flights.
We also shouldered the burden in Vietnam and Korea to fight back communism, how did that help our short term interests?
Which great philanthropic European nation should we be more like?
