The mods have been bumping around the idea of having a BTP representative at the 2006 WSOP -- we REALLY want to have one (or more) of our own to cheer for at this monster tourney. The basic idea is to have an online tourney (with qualifiers) that will result in one person getting a seat to the $1500 buy-in tourney of their choice and approximately $1000 spending money.
This post is to see if there is enough interest to actually get this off the ground.
There are three options we've come up with so far, and we want to put these to a vote. If you have any other ideas, let us know. The end result has to be a prize pool of $2500.
All of these tourneys will be something like $5.50 buy-ins (probably at Stars). The registration fees and prizes for these tourneys will NOT be a part of the WSOP prize pool -- that is, everyone keeps what they win online. On top of these online buy-ins, everyone will be asked to transfer $X to a neutral 3rd party either via a poker site or via Neteller. This money will make up the WSOP prize pool.
The options (listed as "pokersite buy-in per tourney"/"WSOP fee"):
1) $5.50/$250 10-player SnG with $5.50/$25 SnG qualifiers
10-player SnG for the final table. 10-player qualifiers to fill in the seats that aren't bought directly. The winner gets the WSOP package. Players can buy-in directly to the final table for $5.50/$250. This can be run multiple times if there is enough interest.
2) $5.50/$50 MTT with $5.50/$5 or $5.50/$10 SnG qualifiers
Winner of MTT gets the WSOP package. SNG qualifiers can either have either the winner ($5.50/$5) or the top two ($5.50/$10) advance to the MTT.
We need at least 50 players in the "Main Event" to make this happen. If there are over 100 players, then there will be two packages. Any amount over the $2500 will be either awarded to high finishers (e.g., 2nd and 3rd) or just prorated and returned to players. This will be decided later.
3) $5.50/$100 MTT with $5.50/$10 or $5.50/$20 qualifiers
Same as the above but for double the stakes. We will only need 25 participants per seat.
Other thoughts:
- We might try to play these (esp. the qualifiers) on play money tables. The question is whether we can set up private play money tables with decent structures anywhere.
- For the MTTs, a deep-stack tourney might be a good idea.
- The prize must be awarded to someone who is 21 or older.
- Transferring the prize to someone else might be possible... not decided yet.
- Only people who are members as of this post are eligible to play (i.e., anyone registered after adamh is not eligible).
- None of this is final or binding. The specifics of the format we end up chosing will be detailed later (e.g., what to do with overage, who the 3rd party is, how to transfer money, where will the tourneys be played, etc.).
Anyway, we welcome any and all comments. We really hope to see some of our finest at the WSOP this year, and maybe these tourneys will help facilitate that.
