Ice, you're a smart guy, but you don't pay attention to politics. And I know you feel like you have good reasons not to. But on an issue like this, it's really important.
Everybody voted for the online poker bill because it was attached to the port security act, which HAD to pass. But the only reason it got attached to the port security act is because a few Republicans, acting alone, put it there.
You gotta pay attention to the way politics really works. The final vote on an issue is very often not the important thing. In the case of poker, the final vote was completely meaningless. All that mattered was the small session of deal-brokering prior to the vote. No Democrats were involved in that session.
How do I know that? Because no Democrats are ever involved in any of these sessions. That's the way the Republicans are running the national government these days. All of the important stuff happens behind closed doors, and only Republicans are invited behind the doors. Then they ram it through. Bipartisanship is totally dead.
Anyway, to the original question. I have not much to add, except to second that you should call your Senators and Representatives. If you live in a state that has banned online poker specifically, I would also get on the horn to your state representatives and senators. Let the governor know how you feel, too. Hell, even if you don't live in a state like that, it's worth letting the powers that be know how you feel, at every level of government.
