Not necessarily. However, playing shows in a band DEFINATELY does! (Especially if you bust out a really hot solo near the end  )

Let us know how it works out. If you learn your scales and wanna get some backing tracks to jam over, lemme know and I'll get some recordings for ya. Those things are really a lot of fun to play with. Really helps your improvisation. Good luck on your journey, mate. It's a great way to get frustration out after a bad day of poker.

I spent a summer of insomnia learning to play the guitar. Not sleeping means plenty of time for an infinite time sink, you can only clean so much.

I'm not sure how much practice it takes to get better than average, but at 8 months I still sucked after at least two hours a day, but could compose on the thing. Which was the whole point, writing is more fun than learning stuff already wrote, although I guess maybe more time with TABs would have increased my knowledge of the damb thing making writing easier.

I eventually sold the guitar after a year of it collecting dust figuring that someone should be using it, Photoshop had become my obsession that lasted a bit longer, with far better results.
