My last band did a bunch of covers that were kinda out of the ordinary, maybe because we all had different tastes. Here's what I remember of our set list: We had 2 guitars and the other guitarist played some keyboards.
Gimme Shelter - Stones
Would - Alice In Chains
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple (yeah, as corny as you'd think it is, people LOVED it)
The Trees and La Villa Strangiato - Rush (more to make me happy, I could play Lifeson licks all day long.)
Turn The Page - Seger (we did it ultra heavy WAY before Metallica covered it)
Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd (the singer dude could nail the vocal on this)
Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
Vacation - GoGos (not uber heavy, kinda punkish heavy, like super fuzzy Green Day)
What Deener Was Talking About - Ween (we dabbled with other Ween stuff but no one knew it)
Whipping Post - Allmans
Soulshine - Allmans
Long Way Down - Goo Goo Dolls (way underrated song IMO)
Hold My Hand/Let Her Cry - Hootie and Blowfish - singer had the perfect Hootie voice and everyone loved to sing along
Hey Joe - Hendrix (yeah, us and a zillion other bands)
Freeway Jam - Jeff Beck (this was our 'hey I broke a string, gimme 2 minutes to fix it' song)
Burnin Love - Elvis (this song rocks when you heavy it up a bit)
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Badge and Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
Powderfinger and Like a Hurricane - Neil Young (sometimes Rocking In The Free World too)
One - Creed
War Pigs & Paranoid - Sabbath
Shot In The Dark - Ozzy
a shitload of others I can't remember right now
Songs we messed with but never played out:
Hum - Stars (drummer loved it but bass player hated it)
Torn - Creed (we broke up soon after this came out, never fully worked it out)
Man In The Box - Alice In Chains (none of us could hit the high notes, as horribly as we tried, lol)
Knocking At Your Back Door - Deep Purple (don't know why we dropped this, I love it)
Here's the deal - the songs that the average bar patron wants to hear are what they hear on the radio. In other words, you are gonna have a hard time playing the songs YOU (as a musician) want to play, cuz the average drunk bar hopper won't know how cool the harmonized 2 guitar parts are in Allmans or Skynyrd tunes, they just know how to sing "I Got Frennz in low friggen places bra!!!!" when they are hammered.
Good luck, I wish I still played, I really miss it but don't have time to get back into it. If you want an asskicking Hughes & Kettner combo amp let me know. it's dusty, but should still work. Not the loudest on the planet but the tone was beautiful.
