From page 26 in Snyder's book:

"In New Jersey, in 1982, representing himself before the state supreme court, the late Ken Uston, renowned author of numerous books on card counting, won a landmark case against the casinos. Today, the fourteen Atlantic City casinos may no longer bar skillful players from their tables."

He goes into more detail later on a whole chapter dedicated to legal issues with card counting.

I found which I read and it presents the law as I understood it before reading EP9's post, but I did not cite check the article. I read the Uston case, which rests on the state law of New Jersey (and was wrongly decided IMHO).

If I have to read another Greate Bay Casino Corp case I will vomit and my head will subsequently explode, so I think I will pass.

Card counting is not illegal. It is not cheating. But it is not welcome either, and at least in Nevada, if you are caught, will result in the casino escorting you from the property and reading you the Trespass Act.
