i play at Prima...and i play $50NL more or less the same way i play $20NL. im roughly 20% VP$IP/7% pfr. im not afraid to occasionally (or frequently) screw around with 96s, check-raise with nothing against players that know how to fold when they're "beat", and bet pretty much every flop that's checked to me, and raise the majority of flops that have someone betting less than 1/2 pot. i know that's the antithesis of how you're supposed to play at low stakes....but i average just under 20ptbb/100 over 20,000 hands. i've just recently moved up to $50NL....but my win rate at $50NL with 3,000 hands is roughly the same as my $20NL rate with 15,000 hands, and i haven't noticed a huge difference between the 2 levels.
there are some super-tight ABC players at the $50NL. they generally don't get paid off quite so much. at least at Prima...you can fairly frequently have tables composed of semi-decent regulars. they, for the most part, have identified the nut-peddlers and don't pay them off.
my point is this, i guess: the most important thing at No Limit is knowing your opponent. there are players that can min-raise preflop and cause me to fold AK....and other players that can re-raise preflop and cause me to push w/ AQ or 77. there are players that can bet 1/3 pot on the flop and cause me to fold...other players can bet full pot in the same context and cause me to raise huge. you really have to know who you're up against. if you do that...you can play most any (normal) degree of loose or tight and still make some $$$.
the other thing is that while my starting hand selection is sometimes on the unusual side....it is absolutely bankroll-draining to ever call raises with easily dominated big-card hands. AQ/AJ/AT, KQ/KJ, etc etc.
