Probably XP but you only get the recovery disc and not a 'real' windows XP disc.

I bought a Dell about 3 months ago when they had a 750 off 2000. Pretty much the same thing. I think you could have done slightly better if you had gone with a lower amount of RAM, bought the RAM off Newegg, and instead gotten another battery (that 53 WHR one will only last you about 2 hours if you're not using wireless and have the brightness turned down all the way). Dell wanted to charge me $330 for 2 GB of RAM, and I got better RAM and sold the old stuff, so going from 512 MB to 2 GB only cost $100.

For those asking about how to get these coupons, Dell has them a few times a year. Sometimes they have $750 off $1500 too. You can look on fatwallet.com for them. Also, if you buy from Dell you should buy through the fatwallet link for cashback. On a laptop like this you'll get over $40 back (3% on the purchase plus $5 from fatwallet).

Thanks for the link Derk! My fiance is looking for one for the fall...this may make Dell worthwhile.

Thanks for the site. So do you buy all your online stuff through fatwallet and they actually give you the cashback that they claim? How do they transfer you the money?

You click through their link and in all the cases I've bought stuff I got the cash back credited within 3 days of it shipping out from the merchant. Only certain places do it though. Amazon doesn't do it, but many other large online retailers like Staples, Target, and CompUSA do it. The cash back is "frozen" in your account for 3 months to prevent you from scamming them by returning the item and making off with the money. After you've accumulated at least $5 in cash back and the 3 month period has elapsed, you can get a check from them. FW is reputable and quite a large company, so you don't have to worry about them not paying out. Additionally, right now they have a promotion that has run for the past 6 months and ends at the end of March. If you have earned $5 in cash back, they'll give you $5 free. The promo initially ran for 3 months last year, but it was so popular they extended it to the first three months of this year as well and might go even further.
