"So many good shows on TV these days, it's wonderful. Even without cable."

I have to disagree. I just find it so difficult to suffer through most of whats on primetime without being enraged by the utter stupidity of it. Its mind-numbingly irritating. Aside from baseball and football, I can barely name maybe 5 shows that dont piss me off.

Lost is exceptional, Rescue Me is good (Leary's manic anger and binge drinking is comforting to me), the manueverings of Survivor are interesting in a debasing way...I dont know - I guess thats it. The rest of the shit is horrific.

And finally, I thought it was firmly established that no women post on BTP? So who's the chick that digs Friends?

Oh, please. You're telling me you have watched every show on TV?

Scrubs is a terrific show. So is House. So (and yes I mean it) is Desperate Housewives, although I risk being called a chick for enjoying it. All the Law & Orders are worth watching. Love Monkey looks really good so far. Of course there's Lost. Family Guy rocks. Crumbs is too sit-com-ish but has some good moments. ER and the West Wing are really good, though I rarely find time to watch them. Arrested Development is a really good time. Everybody on this site seems to love 24, though I've never seen it.

When I tape everything that sounds good, I always have more shows to watch than time I want to dedicate to TV, rather than the other way around. And that's not including my South Park DVDs. :)

I will agree with allstar that there is nothing on tv really worth watching for the most part. I saw Arrested Development while it was on, syndicated Seinfeld (I'm only 19 so I had trouble following it while it was big), and 24. If it waasn't one of those shows my TV was on a sporting event or it was off. Most of TV is mindless drivel nowadays, similar to most popular music.

Family guy has gone downhill since FOX has brought it back quite a bit, and the Simpsons has plummeted (as expected, Groening has been going for so long now) botht just aren't as original/funny anymore. I hope they improve or it will just slide farther off the list.

I hope Fox doesn't bother to bring back arrested development and put it through the same thing, hopefully NBC (they had Seinfeld remember) or some other cable channel will puck it up. If not, I'll have to consult the Analrapist Tobias to solve my problems.

Well Allstar, at least you have the courage of your convictions! :D

Do you seriously dislike Family Guy? And Scrubs? And House? You've watched them all a few times and decided there's nothing good there? Hmm....

Well, some folks did an interesting study of popular music. Specifically, they studied how popular music becomes popular. Answer: in large part, people like the music they like ... because other people like it.

I'm sure the same applies to TV shows. So this is only sort of off topic.

Ive seen family guy and it was amusing

House Ive never heard of, I presume its new? I really tuned out on primetime tv at the height of the Friends/Will and Grace etc yrs - maybe I guess 3 or 4 yrs ago. The subject matter is so targeted to the lowest common denominator of 16-21 yr old brainless fools, that I cant bear to watch it. These shows you mention, they might be the exception, but in general, my humbe opinion is that primtime tv is created for and marketed to the brainless masses. We, as highly intellectual poker players, are above that. LOL, Ive never picked a side and strayed to far from it.

Even f*cking sportscenter is pretty much unwatchable these days, with all the Boo-Yas and hip hop bullshit. Show me the highlights - thats why ESPN News is so useful. I guess Im showing my age here, but most of the time, once the wife goes to sleep, I turn off the tv, fire up the ipod and the laptop and off we go.
