Two drawing hands against a very loose preflop raiser... OOP

Postby Stoneburg » Fri Nov 11, 2005 4:43 pm

Same villain in both hands. He is a bit loose, vpip 25, but more than that he raises *every* hand he plays preflop, and it is maximum raises (this is Pot Limit). I don't think he continuation bets in family pots but he definetely does in smaller pots (I don't think his strategy is that bad).

Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

MP1 ($12.92)
Hero ($32.10)
MP3 ($25)
CO ($26.13)
Button ($48.53)
SB ($26.70)
BB ($24.05)
UTG ($38.90)
UTG+1 ($13.85)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [6s], [As]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
UTG calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP1 calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 2 folds, Button raises to $1.6, 2 folds, UTG calls $1.35, MP1 calls $1.35, Hero calls $1.35.

Flop: ($6.75) [4h], [3h], [7c] (4 players)
UTG checks, MP1 checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($6.75) [Jd] (4 players)
UTG checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets $6.45

Preflop I figure that my A is probably good most of the time and my position is good.

Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (8 handed)

UTG+1 ($13.42)
MP1 ($33.30)
Hero ($37.65)
CO ($25)
Button ($48.58)
SB ($46.10)
BB ($23.25)
UTG ($6.75)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [8d], [7h]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
2 folds, MP1 calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 1 fold, Button raises to $1.35, 2 folds, MP1 calls $1.10, Hero calls $1.10.

Flop: ($4.40) [Kh], [3s], [8c] (3 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $4.2

Lord knows I normally despise calling preflop raises OOP with drawing hands. Is this a viable exception?

Hand #1 Having 2 other big stacks in the hand does make it tempting to call. I think I would also call in this situation. And the way the hand was checked around, I like your pot sized bet on the turn. You have to figure button would have made a move if you didn't. Now you put the preasure on him.

Hand #2 Would have folded this one. I like to have more people in the pot before getting in there with connectors. Especially if my cards aren't suited.
