What do u do in this situation?

Postby Zuccala » Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:22 am

Hey,

$50NL, Hero Has $50, Villan has $50

Get dealt [As][Kc] in EP and limp, all folds to LP who makes it $2.50, you are only caller

flop [2h][Ks][9c] [$6.25]

I check, Villan bets $6.25. I C/R $18, Villan calls

turn [3d] [$42.25]

Hero Action??

This is a hypethetical situation, but i am lost when it comes to playing this turn OOP, what is the best plan of action? What about if u hit the Ace on the flop rather than the King? I only have $29 left and i am totally lost OOP. Any help here would be greatly apreciated, I have been thinking about OOP play alot and am frustrated. Ughh. Thanks

first off I wouldn't limp with AK unsuited. however there may be others here who disagree with me

second off if you check riase that flop I think you have to bet the turn

in general, the reason i limp w/ AK early is to avoid playing big pots w/ it out of position. keeping w/ that, on a K92 rainbow flop, i probably check/call everytime. i would expect to be way ahead, but mainly i'm trying to keep the pot small...i'm willing to give free/cheap cards for this purpose. if i'm ahead, most likely opponent has a 2-outer.

in this hand, the checkraise left hero basically pot-committed and in a tough spot. i think it's time to go into check/call mode and hope for a split or KQ/J.

this is purely anecdotal, but i've had a lot of success check/calling w/ hands like TP in these hu pots. you save money against monsters, but mostly it's that these $50 and below guys just keep firing and give you so much value in just calling their bets. not to mention it's a very easy way to play the hand. quick example from $50 nl:

hero limps w/ [Ac][Kc] early. mediocre player in lp raises 4x. only hero calls.
flop: [Kh][9h][4s]. hero checks, lp bets pot, hero calls.
turn: [blank]. hero checks, lp bets 1/3 pot. hero knows he's way ahead here, just calls. (this street probably questionable)
river: [Kd]. lp is going to check behind. might as well rep a missed flush draw. hero bets 2/3 pot. lp thinks, thinks, calls w/ [6c][6h].

I limp AK in early position maybe 50% of the time. It depends on the table, if your continuation bets are getting called, there's no point in raising and betting because you miss 2/3 of the time. On a tough table, you will lose bigger pots this way and win small pots when you hit your A/K.

Limping AK will pay off when you hit TP and are paid off by other Ax hands. I don't see why you have to always raise it. Your play should depend a lot on the table, your image, how other players play post-flop.

I limp AK in EP about 50%. Especially at $25NL and $50NL where your CBs just dont get respect.
“The real things to know is that folks will stand to lose more than they will to win. That’s the most important percentage there is. I mean, if they lose, they’re willin’ to lose everything. If they win, they’re usually satisfied to win enough to pay for dinner and a show. The best gamblers know that.” - Pug Pearson
