Set of 6's in a live 1-2NL game

Postby rmfin730 » Tue Nov 01, 2005 6:08 pm

Hi all, new BTP poster here. Have been playing holdem seriously now for about 2 1/2yrs. This hand came up in a 1-2NL game in vegas when I was there over the summer. Have posted it on another board but wanted to see what yall thought...

I am sitting in MP2 with 66 - UTG+1 calls all others fold around to me, I flat call - SB calls and BB checks.

Flop:
5 6 8

So I hit my set but am worried about a possible draw to a straight. Everyone checks to me and I bet $5 (little less than the pot). The SB raises me the minimum and makes it $10. The SB seems to be one of the better players at the table and has a stack around $400-450 - has always shown down winners so far. I take this a raise as a "I want to see where I'm at raise" and I decide to call the $5 and raise $30 more - he smooth calls it.

Turn:
J

Here is where it gets fun...He checks showing weakness and at this point I have no reason to think I am behind in the hand so I fire out a bet of $40 which he calls and then raises $60 more...OK so the red light just went off and I think I am being trapped here, the pot is to big to fold and I have outs if he flopped the straight. I call the $60 and hope the board pairs on the river.

River:
K

SB doesnt hesitate and goes all in, it is going to cost me the rest of my stack to call - I estimated the pot to be around $180-190 at this point and my stack is around $180-190 also.

So, who makes the call and who throws them to the muck?

Hands that beat you 7-9, 4-7, 88
JJ and KK also but he didnt raise preflop. Slim chance for JJ almost none for KK.

There arent really any hands that you have beat if he is NOT blufifing.
maybe 2-pair, lower set, pocket 99?

Therefore, you basically have to decide if he is bluffing or not

Generally, when people get that cute-sy with min-raiseing, smooth calling, check-raising and going all-in they have the nuts or are making somekind of complicated bluff.

Most players dont make that complicated of bluffs.
Therefore, I fold.

I calculate the pot to be more like $270. If thats right and its $180 to you, I would probably call.

The live games Ive played, the players are horrible.

You beat 2 pair, an overpair and a smaller set. I think I would have to call, although I expect his to have the str8 a lot of the time.

What NL 1/2 game were you playing in Vegas that only had 3 players in for a limp preflop?

Actually after he puts you all in , the pot is about $450 and its $180 to you so youre getting 2 1/2 -1. I cant fold that.
