Improving my river play

Postby iceman5 » Wed Oct 26, 2005 9:42 am

Ive been way too passive at the river for a long time. This is my number one priority, especailly at 6 max where people call with weaker hands. I need to value bet the river much more with marginal hands.

Heres one from today where I normally would check behind.

2 limpers and I raise to $10 with AA on the button. 1 limper and the BB call. BB is horrible.

Pot $33. Flop comes J72. Checked to me and I bet $20. BB calls and other guy folds.
Pot $73. Turn is a J. That card really sucks. Check/check
Pot $73. River is a 5 putting a backdoor flush out there. He checks. Top card on the flop paired and now theres a flush out there. Normally I would check behind here. But the new me thinks, why wouldnt he bet the river after I checked behind on the turn? I opendd the door for him. The old me would think "he wont call a bet unless he has me beat so why not just check behind".

The new me thinks "he probably thinks I have AK / AQ . Nobody checks the turn with AA right? He might call me with any pair". I bet $40 and he calls with A2.

Gotta love 6 max
