Set vs. PFR

Postby T-Rod » Mon Oct 24, 2005 8:44 am

Villain is a LAG for sure. Raises about twice the average, but most are the min raise variety. I've played with him all morning and never seen him do anything nutty except for the frequent PFR.

Empire $100NL 6-max
Villain $88.90 and Hero $148.70

Villain in LP raises to $3, I call in CO with 5[s] 5[d] and we're heads up.

Flop ($7.50) 4[s] 6[h] 5[h]. Aaah my beloved set.
Villain leads with $5, I reraise to $25, and Villain calls.

Turn ($57.5)-- 8[d]
Villain checks, I bet $25, Villain pushes all in for $40 more

Thoughts?

Clear call imo. The only thing you're drawing effectively dead to is 88. If he has it, so be it.

If he has the straight (presumably with 77), you have outs. If he has an overpair, he has problems.

I think more often than not he's going to have an overpair here, although suited connector raises, etc. aren't that uncommon these days. Given his range of possible hands, though, I think you have to draw at the straight.

I called, he won, he raised pf with A[h] 7[h]. Anyone put him on that hand? ONce the flop came out, I guess his play is fine but is there anyway I can give him credit for that?
