Set of 2's my play?

Postby AlamdeaMike » Fri Oct 21, 2005 9:57 am

Did I play this hand okay? A, B or C?

Thanks for any feedback.

Live NL game. Loose table - lots of action, all-ins, bluffing etc.

UTG - $800, MP $200, me $600

I am in the CO seat with [2s] [2d] .

UTG opens for $20 and 2 players call. I cold call praying for a set. I do not look at the flop but at the player in seat 10 (UTG) - I am in seat 7. I do not want to give any off any tells if a 2 comes.

After the flop UTG looks and I then look at the flop.

Flop - pot $80+ [2h] [Ks] [7c] - wow I hit my set.

UTG bets $40. 1 folds, and 1 calls. Pot now $160+

I decided to take one more card off and just call.

Turn - pot $200 [Jh] - I do not like the jack and may be kicking myself.

UTG (LAG) bets out $40, the guy on my right calls again. Pot $280.

I decide enough of this and raise to $100.

UTG thinks and then mucks as does the other player.

UTG says set of Jacks? I put my cards in the muck and just smile.

Questions? Okay to wait for the Turn to raise? Was the $60 raise enough? What to do if he come back over the top?
Don't lose your entire stack in an unraised pot or with only one pair.

Um, these guys are terrible. $40 into a $200 pot? You definitely have to raise and be willing to play for it all here. Your raise is small and asking for a call and you couldn't get one, so they had zip anyway. Probably a couple of top pair type hands at best.

I think you shoul listen to Doyle when he says never to slowplay a set, not that I would not slowplay somethime, cause it's just another missed chance to bulid the pot, maybe one of them had a small kiker king, and they would call a min raise on the flop, just maybe some more money for u

on this kind of table i'm playing a set kind of fast, even on a draw free board.

with 80 in the pot on the flop and 1 caller, i'm making it $100 right there. people are going to expect a monster to wait for the turn.

someone on this board (probablly ice, usually is) said ' it's hard to win a big pot unless you create a big pot'.

this is a live loose game. chances, if one of them has a K, they're going to stick with it. if you raise that flop, they can't put you on JJ, and are likely to call you down with KQ, AK.

also, if one of them pushes on that turn, i call in a heart beat. that's what bank rolls are for.
