Keep bettin the turn?

Postby MVPSPORTS » Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:33 pm

When he calls the flop raise, should I just have check/maybe called a value bet on the river... Or should I have pounded away again on the turn, promotin AQ or AK, tryin to get him to fold...?

Not worth the effort... after he calls your checkraise I'm done with the hand.

There are no obvious draws that would call your preflop raise, so I definitely think he has an A.

But make a note of that guy, he lead into the preflop raiser and called a reraise with bottom pair and backdoor flush draw. Fishy.

Against a standard opponent, I check the turn and check/call the river pretty much the way you did it. More times than not, he hit the Ace.

However, your opponent is unbelievably bad. He calls a pfr with J9, calls a flop bet in hopes of hitting the miracle draw, THEN he hits it and checks. So he'll pay to draw but not make others pay him when he hits? Wow.

So against this guy, I think weak=strong and strong=weak. If I knew this before hand, I'd pound away on the turn.

That's about as interesting a dilemma as you can get.

Why'd he min bet on the flop? Then call a huge raise? I don't get it. I'm probably just as done with the hand as you are after that. Unfortunately in this case he got lucky and hit his flush...

Obviously betting the turn would have been the better move here, but I wonder if that's the case often enough to make it worthwhile. He may not have an ace, or he may think you have a strong ace and fold a weak one if you bet that turn...

Keep in mind that after calling preflop and flop he definetly calls a turn bet drawing to his flush. So I think that if you had more info on this player you definetly bet the turn but in this case I think that checking saved you some money. Nobody mentioned that he bet his low pair but never bet the flush..lol.

I dunno, even knowing that he's a fish doesn't mean you should fire again on the turn.

I think the way to beat this kind of player is to wait until you have a hand that hits the flop and then drain his money.

He called a 6x PFR with J9s, then called a reraise on the flop with bottom pair and a backdoor flush draw.

This is not someone you can knock off their hand easily, so don't try.
If he had top pair here, there's no way he'd lay it down to another bet on the turn.
