Tight with a $1500 BankRoll

Postby DaveRed » Mon Oct 17, 2005 1:31 pm

I started playing poker a lot this summer with $30 in PokerStars. I've pretty much been VERY tight, playing any PP (if the raiser has 10x raise); raising AA/AK/KK/QQ/JJ, sometimes TT. Limp with AQ, and limp with Ax suited OTB. I wrecked the $5NL, $10NL, $25NL, and $50NL games, moving up when I had 10x max buyin. I worked my way up to $1200 by the end of the summer. Started playing $100NL and worked up to $2200. I started playing $200NL this weekend, and went up to $2400, then back down to $2200; I don't think I'm ready for it (just don't feel comfortable betting $200 on a hand..). However lately it feels like I've been losing everytime I play. Everytime I raise with AK to $4, continuation bet of $6 normally hit or miss, I've been getting Min-raised (when I miss, fold if I hit). If I have JJ, flops been coming A or K, and I've made the same continuation bet of $6, the other guy pushes all in. Maybe I've just been getting unlucky (as I haven't hitten many sets), but it doesn't seem like my strategy isn't working? I've been on a pretty big down run lately though, and only have $1500 now. Should I change sites to Party Poker maybe (where they are worse)? My roommate wants me to move to GamingClub, and get RakeBack (how much $ would I get for that?) Already have a PartyPoker account so couldn't get rakeback on that, but if they are a lot worse (at $100NL) should I move there? Any advice would be great, thanks.

I agree with Big Phish, you don't have enoght of a bankroll to play relaxed at 100nl, and not be afraid to loose a few buy ins
If you want you coul try Bodog at 100 nl or 50 nl, 2 tables max and take a lot of notes, you can beat them easier , i think
and about your play, try to limp raise, check raise somethimes, I don't know, do somethimg else cause if you do te same move a few times with the same cards someone will notice it and will take your money
and keep it tight if you can , at least if you loose , you might loose woth a decent hand, no
good luck to u

I just don't think you can go up levels like that. You have to "earn" your way up, improve your game even if you had a huge bankroll. The players will get better, if you don't get better you're going to lose. With 10 buy-ins, you WILL go on a losing streak and lose half of your bankroll at some point.

Folks stop rolling over to CB's once you get past $50 tables...

I'd have to say the $50 tables they call more of my continuation bets.. It was working a lot at $100 NL and $200 NL ...should I just forget about it with a missed AK, and check? How about JJ or QQ on a board with AKx?
