stupid good flop

Postby ua1176 » Sun Oct 09, 2005 11:40 pm

$50NL @ Prima

Semi-Loose/Aggressive player raises from UTG+2 to $3. for him, this means AA/KK/QQ. most likely AA/KK. he raises smaller with lesser hands. i make a dubious call from MP w/ [8c][7c]. i have $50. he covers me...and he's been known to stack off on his big pairs.

flop: [4c] [5c] [6c]

he checks on the flop. i infer from his check that he either has KK w/ the [Kc] or AA w/ the [Ac]. he'd have led big without a club, fearing me for a big pair with a big club.

how do i extract money from this? should i play it fast now or hope a 4th club hits?

i check and hope he has a big club or is slowplaying AKc on you. If he doesnt' have that and doesn't catch running boat or something, you are not likely to get anything out of him. If he checks to you on the turn, i put out a smallish bet that looks like a steal and hope he continues. If he had KcKx or AcAx, he is like to continue with the hand and helps build the pot for the river.

I suggest betting ~2/3 pot flop, turn, and river. He can't tell if you're betting because he's checking or because you have a hand.

That would be something like: $4 into $6 flop, $10 into $14 turn, $25 into $34 river.

You've left a bit of money ($8) on the table, but bigger bets may scare him off.

Obviously if a 4th club comes you'll either get nothing more, or his entire stack.

Oh, and nice hand!

lets say the flop goes check/check. turn is the [Qc]. now what? i am convinced that he has either a King-high or an Ace-high flush...especially when he leads for $3. what now?

I fail to see the complexity. If you're sure he has either the [Ac] or [Kc] you can pretty much do whatever you want, he will pay you off. No real point in slowplaying it either if you're that sure. Just put in a raise and see what happens. If he reraises, you push, if he calls you push the river.

I don't like your check on the flop. Start building the pot early and it will be big when you're done.

The preflop call is indeed a bit dubious, especially from MP and with no other callers. Of course a good read accounts for a lot.

Don't check that hand on the flop. You want to build the pot somewhat on every street, so that your next bets look reasonable and you can get all the money in the middle. If he has A/K of that suit, he will call 1/2 pot bet. I prefer having an image of someone who bets a lot so I start getting called, rather than trying to slowplay hands.

here's how it played out. flop went check/check. he bet $3 on the turn....i called. he on the river....he bet $5....i raised to $13.....and he folded his King-high flush (KK). im not sure i've seen players at $50NL make that kind of laydown ever.

looking back...i think i played this like an idiot. all i had to do was lead the flop and he would have raised big with his KK and i probably could have gotten all the chips in by the end. i left a lot of money on the table and he made a pretty impressive laydown.

no. this was @ Prima against a normally semi-loose/aggressive player.

i played it like an idiot and he made a hell of a laydown.
