First hand

Postby NorthView » Sun Oct 09, 2005 7:10 am

Ok, my first hand posted here. I've been browsing for a while and have picked up some good tips. I'd appreciate any advice or comments whether positive or negative, but I'm a posting virgin so go easy on me! :)

It's from Ladbrokes (part of the Prima network) so I don't think the convertor will work...

PT has him as a Showdown Muppet using BTP's latest autorules (been paying attention, haven't I?) - 35/9/2.6 after 375 hands. He's been playing fairly muppetly so far, but even muppets get cards.

Any comments on play so far and what you do here, please?

Thanks.

KQo isn't much of a hand PF, but if you're going to play it, this was the perfect time and u want to come in for a 4-5x raise with only one or two limpers.

Do NOT check this flop! You want to build the pot, and since you were the pf raiser, they EXPECT you to put out a 1/3 pot or so bet on the flop regardless of your hand. So...do it! Good raise on the turn, it's possible he has a boat, but most would reraise you then.

The 9, well...he could have 99 if he's stupid. But J9 is possible, so is JK, AJ, all kinds of hands that have you beat. However, be thankful that he only has 11 left and you're calling since lots of players are donks here.

But, you really have to bet that flop, or flopped monsters can get away from you in a HURRY. Not only are you building the pot, but you're further narrowing their likely hands - and therefore defining yours in case some bad cards fall (like the turn).

raising KQ w/ limpers in front is going to get you in trouble. take your cheap flop w/ it on the button.

bet the flop; make it a bit smaller than usual, but bet it...they're expecting you to, and that flop has hit someone 9 times out of 10, especially w/ a live A out. plus, there are 6 cards that will counterfeit your straight/kill your action/give part of the pot away.

turn is good, get him pot-committed.

easy call on the river, especially against a muppet. not saying you'll win this though. :)
