.10/.25 UB
Five limpers and I see a cheap flop in the big blind holding 2
. The flop comes
. Hmmmm, I flopped trips but I have no kicker and I'm first to act the rest of the hand. With 5 to act behind me I chose to check and see what happened.
UTG has me covered and is TAA - bets .25, fold, MP minraise to .50, fold, button calls. I probably should have raised here but chose to smooth call.
(Pot = $3.25) Turn is
The raise and smooth call have me concerned. Any three has me out kicked, so I check again. UTG checks, MP raised $1.75, button went away and I called. UTG check raised to $3.50 and MP called quickly. Now I'm definitely freaked and call.
(pot = about $14) River is
I check (why wake up now?), UTG checks and MP bet $5. I called and UTG folded.
MP showed
and I took a $24 pot.
On the flop I chose to play this slow. The big pots that I have lost lately are in just this BB special kind of hand. Brunson's advice "don't lose your stack in an unraised pot" was ringing in my mind. In retrospect I'm kicking myself for not waking up on the turn but I wonder if I win much more.
So am I an idiot for not playing this faster or does someone see what i was thinking?
