I almost always bet out in these situations on the flop .. but I thought I'd play a bit different. I figured betting out would only get a call from a blind with an 8 or ace (neither of which I particulary want to build the pot with). I figured a check might induce at least some probe betting even though neither of the blinds was a LAG...
Table is tightish/passive (by which I mean non-aggro)

I had bought in for $40 maybe 15 minutes before and had been making a lot of continuation bets that elicited folds...
----- TURN -----
Min420: bets $1
king33: folds
Excession: calls $1
Thought about popping him back but again couldn't see what benefit there is in tipping him off I've an A or 8 if he is beat...and the $1 bet could be a feeler if he has hit an 8..
----- RIVER -----
Min420: bets $2
Excession: calls $2
Mistake here - I was again a bit worried about an 8 and happy just to show down the last hand of the night, but a min raise would be best for another $2 of profit (if he had really had an 8 he would have bet at least $3 I think..
----- SHOW DOWN -----
Min420: shows
(Two Pairs, Tens and Eights, Ace high)
Excession: shows
(Two Pairs, Aces and Eights, Ten high)
Excession collected $8.75 from Main pot
----- SUMMARY -----
Total pot $9 Main pot $8.75 Rake $0.25
So I made $3 extra from him by playing it passively... what do you guys reckon - good +EV play in these particular circumstances or just passive and lucky?
