Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

UTG+2 ($82.95)
MP1 ($92.32)
MP2 ($17.40)
MP3 ($35.60)
CO ($50.55)
Button ($35.66)
SB ($32.58)
BB ($56.30)
UTG ($53.30)
Hero ($48.65)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with The [9s], [9c]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
1 fold, Hero calls $0.50, UTG+2 raises to $1.87, 7 folds, Hero calls $1.37.

Flop: ($4.49) [6h], [Kd], [9d] (2 players)
Hero bets $3, UTG+2 raises to $6, Hero ????

My opponent is loose with average aggression pre-flop . However he doesn’t go to showdown very often and usually shows down winners; overall I respect him. It is possible that he may laydown an overpair or TPTK if I get agressive but I am not sure.

On that table I hadn’t gotten a hand in forever so I have a very tight image. How do I stack this guy?

Given your read, at a $25NL table, I'd call and BTP on the turn (hoping for no diamond!). A re-raise on the flop will probably scare him off. If he raises you on the turn bet, push. If he calls the turn bet, BTP or 2/3 of it at least on the river. Again, barring anything super-scary.

You're not always going to get a full stack, but you can certainly get the $20 you need to make this play profitable in the long run.

I call and then check raise the turn no matter what hits.

One a side note, to this day, I have yet to see any good player who makers those ridiculous $1.87 raises. Ive seen lots of guys make odd amount raises and every one of them has been a fish.

Now that I think about it, at lower stakes and against this $1.87 raiser, I would probably reraise the flop because I doubt he can fold AA or AK.

After re-reading this hand I think he has QQ or JJ. He makes a raise to hope that somehow he can push you off your hand but he doesnt want to push to much in because he thinks he is probably beat. I have seen a lot of weak players do this. When I responded in your journal I missed the fact that this is a raised pot. I still think you played this hand fine, if he is going to raise than fold to another raise, he isnt that happy with his hand, so am not sure there is any way to take his stack. You won a decent pot without the risk of getting drawn out. Winning anf low variance poker.
