What about this scenario:
You cold-call the $36. Now MP gets to make a choice. If he has the [Ad] or [Kd] he probably smooth calls and closes because he is getting a good price. If he has an overpair he might get scared and move in, aka do something rash -- you did say he was not very good.

If he cold-calls, you can push in front on a non-diamond turn. Now if he has the bare Ad or Kd you have about 4:1 advantage and LP is squeezed, he needs a big hand to continue. He may still fold middle set if that is indeed what he has.

If the MP moves in on the flop, this is good for you too, because if the button calls MP's all-in you can be certain bottom set is beat and you fold. Otherwise you can call heads-up.
