Not sure of my play with this blind hand

Postby Twelver » Tue Oct 04, 2005 7:25 am

I don't like the way I played this hand....especially from the turn on and would like some opinions.

Read on villan is that he is slightly loose, but overall pretty solid. I have $125 he has me covered.

NL $100 on Empire

I get dealt [2h] [3s] in the BB. Villan calls UTG, three other callers including the SB and I check.

Pot = $5
Flop = [2d] [2s] [Kh]

SB checks, I bet $4, villan calls all others fold. Heads up.

Pot = $13
Turn = [6d]

I check (first thing I hate). Villan bets $5, I call (second thing I hate....I think I should have raised here).

Pot = $23
River = [7d] completeing the backdoor flush

I lead out for $8 more as a blocking bet than anything as I completly hate my hand at this point and the way I played it. Villan min raises me to $16....I think for a few second and fold.

O.K. everyone tell me how horrible I played the hand....and rather or not I should have folded.

I would not have folded that hand at all. I think you played the hand pretty soft and villan probably thought that his kings were best on the river. He might have drawn a flush on you but I would be paying $8 more to find out.

I think you played it ok until the turn where I would have probably raised it to $20.

What hands could he have in EP, which beat you? Answer: None. A2s is the only one in EP with a 2, which would make sense at least a little bit. I put him on something with the king: AK, KQ or KJ.

His call on the flop would make sense then and on the turn he made a probe bet on your check. A check-raise would have let him fold. Your check was therefore okay at the turn but only with a raise afterwards. On the river I would have check-called. Your bet and fold on a min-raise with trips was very weak-tight...

I agree with the above and think $20 would have been a good amount for a C/R on the turn. Or you could have C/R on the flop as well. However, I usually only use that when bluffing at a paired flop.
