How do you play out of the Big Blind?

Postby mecha » Wed Sep 28, 2005 1:10 am

My general strategy is:
1. My VPIP out of the Big Blind is very low about 9%.
2. I raise very infrequently, approx. 3% as I don't like playing big pots out of position..
3. I fold my BB to steal about 78%
4. I try to steal pots on occasion on flops that look ugly with few callers
5. I don't play as aggressively out of position as I do in position

I am trying to improve my big blind play. I hear a lot of discussion regarding the small blind but would like to focus on the big blind. What part of the gameplan needs improvement? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Your stats look fine to me, I play the same.

The only thing I could add is to call more of small raises. There are many guys, which like to min raise. You get very favorable odds if you call them.

Every time you're in the hand with just the SB (or vice-versa, you are in SB opponent in BB) bet out if he checks. You will win that money constantly, while giving you a looser table image.

Agree with Kenny, and your stats look good. The blinds are actually some of my most profittable positions because no one ever gives you credit when you flop the nuts. I fold to steals a lot unless I KNOW it's a steal...then I pop them 3x what they bet and if they don't fold, I note that either they weren't stealing, or they don't go down to reverse steals :p
