Almost everyone that plays poker for an extended amount of time has those thoughts of, "what if I did this for a living? So and so makes XX BB/100. Man, that's so much more than a regular job." I can do that. Seems like such an easy thing.
But seriously, when was the last time you went to work and LOST money? When did you ever have bills coming up and worked 20 hours of overtime that week and had less than you started with? I see some impressive win rates, better than many hourly salaries for well paid professionals with college degrees, but you aren't thinking about all the other benefits of a regular job. 401k, medical, dental, paid vacation, paid sick leave, bonuses, stock options, etc.
I think anyone that is considering blowing off college or a promising career to play poker for a living is being extremely naive and short sited. I love playing poker and don't see myself ever quiting, but there's just no way it can replace the income I make currently. Sure, a "regular job" can be boring as hell, but I'll never go broke doing it.
Poker is fun. It's my escape from the grind of my day job. It's something that allows me to use my mind and compete with others now that the body doesn't hold up to sports as well as it used to. If instead I had to sit down and play everyday to feed my family and pay my bills then poker would no longer be that fun activity that it is for me now. It'd just be a job...with the constant possibility of leaving me broke at the end of the day...
