Overplaying sets...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Thu Sep 22, 2005 11:09 pm

Man I hit a LOT of sets tonight... I guess that's the makeup from the Poker Gods for not having me hit one for the last 3 1/2 years...

Anyways... I think I'm gettin too aggressive with them, and wanted your guys opinion... What's your line here...

I'd play it the same way. There are too many draws out there to slow play this set. Raise the turn like you did and hope you're opponent has AK or something.

I play it just like this, raise the flop, bet the turn. They either have enough to continue or they don't.

I would bet about half pot there to milk him a bit, and to show I am somewhat afraid of the K. If it's an overcard to his pp, that K is a scary card for him, and you showed too much strength. His raise preflop was a min raise, the pot is small. There's no reason to think he has a hand that you can win a lot against.

Lately I've been really trying to get value out of my hand, with TPTK and with sets. I prefer winning some medium pots than being to aggressive. In order for you to stack them, they really have to like their hand and raise you at some point.

i like the way you played it exactly. I don't bet smaller on the turn because if he will call 10-12, he will call 15 so make him pay a little extra.
