Flopped a monster

Postby AlamedaMike » Wed Sep 21, 2005 12:13 pm

dodog NL $100 .5/1 blinds and I flop a monster. How to get more money?

I sit down and get the BB first hand.

[Jd] [Jc] - okay I raise to $6 and get one caller MP.

Flop ($12.50) [3s] [Js] [3c] - wow full house.

I raised preflop maybe a check with represent AK and a missed flop. Or should I just bet it?

He bets $5 - thank you. Now what? a call or a raise. Either is going to look suspicious.

I don't think I am going to get any more money so I might as well raise and be done with the hand?

Comments/discuss among yourselves  I need help.

Top set - wow

Postby AlamedaMike » Wed Sep 21, 2005 12:29 pm

dodog NL $100 .5/1 blinds and I flop a monster LP. How to get more money?

bb $93 - me $109

I am CO seat EP raises to $5 3 callers.

[9s] [9d] - okay I call $5. Five see the flop.

Flop ($25) [9c] [4h] [8s] - wow top set rainbow - what a dream flop.

BB bets out $12.50 1/2 pot. Feeler bet?

All fold to me.

What is my action here?

Slowplay with a call? Most likely way to lose this hand is a straight. Raise and be done with it?

What hands would the BB have to call a $4 raise OOP and then bet out?

Please help. Thanks.

Thanks hand #1 I waited a few seconds and flat called. The turn was [Ts] I hoped this made is hand and checked. Nope - he checked behind me and folded on the river for a 1/2 bet. I could have checked the river but did not.

Hand #2 I re-raised and he folded. I should have slowplayed my top set which are hard to get.

On hand 1, you have to bet it to build the pot. Bet something like 1/2 pot and hope that you get something out of him.

Hand 2: The standard play with sets, especially in position is to call on the flop, raise on the turn. It's standard but it's amazing how well it works. There's more money in the pot so it's harder for your opponent to let it go.

The size of the raise I use on the turn really depends on the bet size and stack sizes. Here if you call the flop, there will be $50 in the pot on the turn. He has $75 left. If he bets $25 I just min raise, it will commit him anyway. If he bets $15 I raise it to $50 and he is pretty much commited again.

hand 1: if your opponents are good...i think you have to bet full pot on the flop, or close to it. i dont know about you...but when i raise preflop and get a couple callers...i am almost always betting pot on the flop. whenever i see a normally aggressive player check the flop after raising preflop and then call a flop bet...alarm bells go off. if you expect them to fold to your continuation bets, you have to play your good hands the same way sometimes.

hand 2: either he's missed on his AK, or he's trying to lure you in with his overpair. either way...you have him drawing quite slim. i would think for a while and call. then when he bets the turn, raise him. if he checks the turn, bet it.

Great advice guys. I have trouble getting money on my great hands and that is a clear sign that I need more experience.

Thanks very much. I have had more sets today than I can remember at one time.
