How to Beat a LAGgy Maniac (?)

Postby LottaFagina » Wed Sep 21, 2005 9:08 am

Anybody ever played with "moosesd84" on the Party network? Man, he snapped one off me last night. My mistake for underbetting the flop and letting him catch the river cheaply (as if he should have been in the pot anyway). After getting a better image of him, I bet him out on later hands not allowing him to catch any of his junk. Wished I could have put another beat on him.

It's aggravating to watch him in LP bet on a raggedy flop after it's checked to him and watch him steal pots. I'm too tight a player to try to steal his steals. And since I know he plays any junk, he might actually have hit a raggedy flop after there is PF raising. (For his entire night: 71 hands, VP$IP:92%, VP$IP-SB: 100%, WWSF: 44%, WTSD%: 25%, WonAtSD: 41%, PRF: 15%)

What strategy is best against this type of LLLLLAG? Sit tight and wait for your monster hand to break him? If you've got a good hand but vulnerable, bet him out?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

UTG+1 ($81.55)
UTG+2 ($75.60)
MP1 ($42.05)
Hero ($48.75)
MP3 ($45)
CO ($75.60)
Button ($96.38)
SB ($45.40)
BB ($36.55)
UTG ($49.75)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [As], [Ah]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
3 folds, MP1 calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2, 5 folds, MP1 calls $1.50.

Table texture was such that betting >$2 PF would cause the entire table to fold.

Flop: ($4.75) [Jd], [4c], [Qs] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $3.5, MP1 calls $3.50.

YES, OK DAMMIT, I ADMIT I UNDERBET HERE.

Turn: ($11.75) [6s] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $12, MP1 raises to $24, Hero calls $31.25 (All-In), MP1 calls $12.55 (All-In).

I bet into him to not allow the spade draw cheaply and he pushes on me. I can't figure the 6 helped him, but I'm not putting him on a set here based on his play earlier.

River: ($91.55) [Td] (2 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $91.55

Results in white below:
MP1 has 4s 6d (two pair, sixes and fours).
Hero has As Ah (one pair, aces).
Outcome: MP1 wins $84.85. Hero wins $6.70.

This hand came later and I was just hoping he'd call. He said later he had a pair with a straight draw. Wonder if it was the top or bottom end...

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (9 handed)

CO ($48.50)
Button ($0)
SB ($149.90)
Hero ($53.30)
UTG ($47.50)
UTG+1 ($29.40)
MP1 ($8)
MP2 ($22.05)
MP3 ($53.65)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Th], [9h]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, 4 folds, SB (poster) raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.50, UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50.

Normally I'd fold here, but for some reason I thought I'd see a flop for just the min raise from the SB.

Flop: ($4) [7c], [8h], [6h] (5 players)
SB bets $0.5, Hero calls $0.50, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls $0.50.

Cool. Nut straight, weak flush draw, gutshot straight flush.

Turn: ($5.50) [2s] (4 players)
SB bets $3, Hero raises to $10, UTG+1 folds, SB calls $7.

River: ($25.50) [3c] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $20, SB folds.

Wouldn't even call a value bet. Maybe should have made it $15 to be a teaser...

Final Pot: $45.50

I sometimes make a play at them. Wait for a hand I'm in LP and he's the only one to enter the pot so far. Call with any 2. When he bets his normal bet, put in a huge raise. Takes guts, but you're up against "any 2". If he happened to get lucky, well, this backfires.

Anyway, assuming it works, and it will over 90% of the time, show him your 62 offsuit bluff when he folds.

This will do one of two things to him. He'll either stop playing at the pot when you're in it or he'll call every bet you make from that point on. Either way, you'll be "safe" with relatively good holdings. Hopefully he takes the latter approach and you stack him before long.
