Tough spot with KK, 10/20 NL.

Postby droqqa » Mon Sep 19, 2005 2:39 pm

Don't have notes on LP in this hand, I've only played with him this once.

Party 10 / 20 NL

Get [Kh] [Kd] in SB. EP ($2500) raises to 80, LP $1300 min-raises to 140. I re-raise to 500. EP folds, LP calls.

Flop [3s] [3c] [Qd] Pot = $1110.

I check, LP goes all-in for $800. Hero?

Anyone play it differently preflop?

Discuss!

wow, this is a tough spot. If he had QQ, he wouldn't go all in like that or if he did, that is pretty stupid as you are almost certainly gonna bet and he could get you pot committed. That leaves AA, AQ, JJ or TT IMO. I think he could push all in with any of these hands although it think AA and AQ are most likely. However, he didn't raise preflop all in which by your big raise, he could assume you are gonna call another 800 so unless he's overly tricky, he wouldn't have AA. He would probably check raise that too.

Therefore, I call thinking he has AQ, JJ or TT as having a 3 seems out of the question.

Preflop, i play the same way as raising and him not raising back gave you a lot of information. If he's trapping with AA, it would be a poor play IMO that he goes all in before you act.

He could have KK but I just discount that because its not probable.

I love the 500 pfr IF you're intentions were to put him all in on any non-Ace flop.

It's basically a slow all in because he's pretty much pot committed after putting almost 40% of his stack in preflop.

You're really only trailing AA and QQ so you are calling. Seems like AA would have pushed preflop after your raise. QQ? Well I'm just paying him off then.

I like it.

When I hold KK in this situation, I see AQ more than any other hand, he is going to have to get lucky to beat me...

I'm hearing a lot of AQ as a possibility. Really? This guy wasn't a total donk, he seemed fairly non-descript. Would he min-re-raise with AQ? And call a $500 raise? I can't see him holding worse than AK here, and even then, AK is a stretch. Am I off?
