Donkey F***in Flush Chaser

Postby Tiburon » Mon Sep 19, 2005 9:09 am

Guy got me TWICE in one session. Second time was my fault--I gave him the free card, but I figured that trip Q would be good.

Idiot was 58/4/0.83

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (10 handed)

Idiot ($13.85)
MP1 ($25.50)
MP2 ($12.35)
MP3 ($23.75)
CO ($27.25)
Button ($9)
SB ($13.30)
BB ($57.80)
UTG ($24.15)
Hero ($40)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [Jh], [As].
UTG calls $0.25, Hero raises to $1, Idiot calls $1, 7 folds, UTG calls $0.75.

Flop: ($3.35) [2h], [Ah], [4d] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, UTG+2 bets $2, UTG calls $2, Hero raises to $6, Idiot calls $4, UTG calls $4.

Turn: ($21.35) [Qd] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $7, Idiot calls $6.85 (All-In), UTG calls $7.

River: ($42.20) [6h] (3 players, 1 all-in)
UTG checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: $42.20

UTG showed [Ad] [5d]
Idiot? [Qh] [7h]

Great.

Half hour later...

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (9 handed)

Idiot ($11.85)
MP2 ($26.60)
MP3 ($44.15)
CO ($27.70)
Button ($14.65)
SB ($12.65)
BB ($60.85)
UTG ($14.25)
Hero ($24.70)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [Qc], [Ts].
1 fold, Hero calls $0.25, Idiot calls $0.25, 2 folds, CO calls $0.25, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.25) [3s], [Qh], [2h] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $0.75, Idiot calls $0.75, CO folds, SB folds, BB folds.

Turn: ($2.75) [Qd] (2 players)
Hero checks, Idiot checks.

River: ($2.75) [Jh] (2 players)
Hero bets $2.75, Idiot bets $10.85 and is all-in, Hero calls $8.15.

Final Pot: $24.25

Idiot showed [8h] [5h]. Great.

And, of course...the coup de grace:

QQ cracked by 77. I raised to 3 BB pre-flop from the SB, and I ran 3rd in a 3 horse race to a flopped set of 7's and a flopped straight with [8h] [9d]. Buy-in gone. Oh well.

You raise 4xBB from EP with AJo? You give a free card when there's a flush/straight draw on the board? Pardon me for saying this, but this is bad, bad poker.

Bad poker all around, I agree. Allow me to defend. This table was the type where a pre-flop raise could win the pot right then and there.

Hand 1: I just couldn't believe he called the check-raise with a flush draw, and a non-nut one at that. Then he went all in with the flush draw and second pair. The other guy had TP no kicker. This was the character of the table.

Hand 2: I should NEVER have given him that free card. I could've pushed right there, and he wasn' laying down anyway. He chased 2 backdoors from flop to river and busted out chasing one (that he'd need runner-runner to make a T-high flush).

I played them bad.

I feel you, Tiburon. It's easy to get sucked in by an overall bad "atmosphere" at a table and start making plays you normally wouldn't. It's certainly true in my case. It's impossible for me to play my A game when I don't respect my opponents. That's why I play my worst game at the micro limits.
