Ok,
I'm a newbie, 9 months of poker, but I am AM 40 years old. I have lived just a bit and I have some advice.
If you hate something don't do it. This applies to work, hobbies, play, sex, etc. There is just no point. If you hate something, but you do it anyway, then you are addicted. Addiction is bad. It fucks you up, ruins your life.
That said... Most of the folk who post here "I hate poker" don't actually hate poker. They hate they way they are currently PLAYING poker. I hate the way I play poker too. I still have some REALLY bad habits.
1. I seem to like to go all it against an aggressor with an obviously second best hand. Obvious to me, and obvious to them. I know it's wrong. I just can't seem to stop.
2. I think that I need to leave every table ahead. It doesn't matter if I've already won 50xBB in the past couple of hours. If I'm down at THIS table I will get stupid and loose and try and bluff my way back up before I leave the table. I know it's wrong. I just can't seem to stop.
3. I suck at bank roll management. Partly it is because I don't have much money, but mostly it is because I'm in a hurry. I have $50 to my name, and I buy in to a $50 table at Party. Instead of the $2 table at Paradise. I know it's wrong. I just can't seem to stop.
Now the point to all of this is: Figure It Out.
Do you hate POKER?
do you hate Work?
do you hate being poor? <= me
do you hate making the same mistakes over and over.
Make a list of the poker failings you have, and direct your anger at them instead of at poker, or worse at your self. Bring the list with you. Staple it to your forehead. It just might help.
But seriously, figure it out. because if you don't, and you keep doing the thing you ACTUALLY hate, you can REALLY mess your self up.
