My opponent has about a full stack. I don't have any notes or reads on him...I'm new to the table so my read is nil.

Preflop mini raiser checks. Crap player bets $4. Villan raises to $20. I raise to $50. Only villan calls.

He bets $120 fairly quickly. He only has $20 or $30 left behind. I think and think and think. Can't figure out what he has..so decide to fold.


I think I played this hand badly. How should I have played it differently?? IMO my opponent had either a missed flush draw, or something like A5. I don't see him making that bet with something like KJ.

My first thought was the flush draw, but the more I think about it, I believe it could be possible for him to hold something like QJ here. Then again, the possibility of him having a 5 is great because that's how most people would play a 5, you make your raise, get re-raised, can't believe your luck, call, then check to the raiser hoping to get more money out of him, then he surprises you by checking behind and you make the obligatory, I've got a huge hand and don't really expect you to call but incase you do I want it to be a big one bet. Tough call, I think I'm gonna fold this river too.

i fold too but for some reason, I put him on an overpair, not a flush draw or something like that. When you checked the turn, he knew you didn't have a 5 and was trying to get you to call with a Jack by confusing you.

I think he has a 5 and missed his turn check-raise. But he could also be playing QJ or KJ really badly I suppose. (Not sure about an overpair, but possible).

I don't like the flop raise to $50 (especially with someone still to act behind you, who could have done one of those lame "min bet with a monster" thing).

But mainly because you're filtering the weak J hands out, and leaving the 5s in, on the off chance someone has a flush draw.

I'd call, check-behind the turn, and check-call/value bet on the river. Probably call down if he bets the turn.

[EDIT] Anyone think his big river bet only makes sense if he has a hand weaker than AJ?! Otherwise he should be value betting...(like $60)

Personally, I would put him on a weak J or flush draw. I don't think most players would play a 5 that way. Raising on the flop with a set and only calling when reraised? Maybe, but not likely in my opinion.

I think it was a weak jack and the reraise on the flop scared him. But the check on the turn by Kennyg probably made him think Kenny was reraising for a free card on the turn. He then bets the pot with his J thinking its good.

I would have called his bet on the river. However, I also would have bet the pot on the turn, so I would have been putting him allin anyway.

I think its unlikely that he had any kind of overpair. He only called the minraise before the flop, in late position, which tells me he had a mediocore hand. True, it may have been A5s or 56s, but from how he played the flop, I'd say its a weak J.

i thought the preflop min raiser was the villain? If not, I change my opinion.
