From BTP, I've learned one of my most profitable moves, betting out trips into a PF raiser... it goes like 90% of the time... I bet $5, they minraise to $10... I push for $45... they instacall w/ KK and my trip dueces holds up... I imagine that most of the time, they think I have AJ or AQ or whatever the TPTK would be... But, what do you do on a flop like this, where, if he's thinking, he's GOTTA know I'm not pushing that hard w/ A9 ... BTW... this was like my 3rd or 4th hand at the table...

He took the entire time to fold... Which tells me if I call, he's DEFINITELY betting out the turn and I stack him...

I think how you play a flopped set has to depend a lot on the texture of the flop and also your opponent.
But that is rhetoric.

In this case, I'm much more inclined to slowplay.
I would feign thinking for about 10 seconds then call the raise.
And lead out on the turn, no matter what the card.

If you get raised then you decide if he has a higher set.
But as I've learned this is not a big concern usually.

The only reason I would say your play isn't bad (sorry, you want honest right? ) is because you're new to the table.
At NL50 they could peg you as a donkey and call.

yeah, i like the call-call on this flop. calling then reraising screams a huge hand. if he's smart he'd figure out you have a huge hand anyway after calling twice, but at least you give him a chance to put you on 87 or something. there's no harm in giving a free card here since he most likely has a big pair.

avg player might still call that, though.

No way, I play this the same way you did every time. I'm not giving him a chance to either hit a bigger set, or develop some sort of draw...he's got to be punished NOW: don't forget! there's now more than enough money in the pot for you to want to take it down...dont' get soft and tricky with sets in situations like this...if you have the current nuts and there are no immediately evident draws that could start to develop on the turn, THEN think about slowing down...otherwise ram and jam baby! If you call this, it's all over!
