First time playing short handed

Postby Stoneburg » Fri Sep 02, 2005 6:33 pm

I've decided to learn to play short-handed in order to develop my game more and today was the first time. I decided to only play 2 tables instead of my usual 3-4 for obvious reasons and I'll share some of my hands and stats so I can get some feedback. Unfortunately I only got 144 hands in before my friends tempted me with Battlefield 2. That damn game is huge -EV...

I don't like miniraise so I treat them as a limp. Can I play this differently? Í think he's too short for me to get away from the hand.

Guess my preflop call is a bit fishy but this guy seemed like a really weak player. When he bets small on the flop I am thinking he missed and the reason I check-raise big is that I just check-raised him out of a pot a few hands ago, I'm hoping he'll call with what I think is two big cards. That's exactly what happens but afterward I'm thinking this is a really bad play and I just got lucky with my read.

Opponent raises 24% preflop so I figure JJ is a decent rr hand. I stupidly bet small on the flop thinking that HU a flush draw is less likely, of course it arrives and I decide to slow down. When he checks on the river I figure my hand is good since he would bet [Qc] or [Kc]. he calls. Turns out he had AJ, bastard decided to slowplay on the flop and got scared by the flush too, or I would have doubled up. Bad play? Later the same thing happened again, with 99, and my 9 high flush won on the river... obviously I don't learn.
