What is your move here?

Postby 80Proof » Sun Aug 28, 2005 6:04 pm

How would you guys play this hand? I think I made one or two debatable moves. Do you do anything different?....if so, what??? Of course I lost this hand but that is not important....did I play it correctly??

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (9 handed)
saw flop|saw showdown

UTG+1 ($24.25)
MP1 ($32)
MP2 ($23.90)
MP3 ($11.05)
CO ($25)
Button ($15.45)
80 ($36.53)
BB ($25)
UTG ($52.10)

Preflop: 80 is SB with [4d], [4c]. CO posts a blind of $0.25. 80 posts a blind of $0.10.
UTG raises to $0.5, UTG+1 calls $0.50, 5 folds, 80 (poster) calls $0.40, BB calls $0.25.

The UTG min raiser is a donk, I call and hope for my set.

Flop: ($2.25) [Kd], [4h], [8h] (4 players)
80 bets $2, BB folds, UTG raises to $4, UTG+1 folds, 80 calls $2.

I bet to protect from a flush draw since it is a multi way pot. I dont know what to think of his minraise, I figure he is strong..AA, AK maybe....ha, maybe his K8o flopped 2 pair!!. Should I lead out here, go for a CR, or wait for a non heart turn to crank it up??

Turn: ($10.25) [7c] (2 players)
80 checks, UTG bets $5, 80 calls $32.03 (All-In), UTG calls $27.03.

I decided that if the turn was not a heart then I'm pushing...it wasn't,so I check b/c I am 95% certain that my check will get him to bet and I can CR all in.

River: ($74.31) [Qh] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $74.31

Thanks for your input and comments.

You got all your money in with a set and no possible completed flush. Even if he had KK, there's nothing you can do. As someone on here once said, "that's what bankrolls are for." And if he beat you with a flush he's a moron.

I'd probably re-raise on the flop but there's a case to be made for just calling and then getting the money in on the turn when a brick hits. I think you played it fine, assuming you're willing to fold if he checks behind on the turn and a heart comes on the river.

[Ah] [Kh] makes a lot of sense so I guess that's out of the question.

Turns out he had KK for an OverSet.....oh well, as long as I didnt play it incorrectly. I would have been more upset if he was a flush chaser which is what I thought he was too.

They always do. That's why they're morons who play the way they play, until they go broke.
