To small a bet on the turn??

Postby Rhound50 » Sun Aug 28, 2005 2:19 am

Live NL game 1/3 at commerce casino. I have $210 to start the hand, Villian has me covered. Villian is a pretty solid player, he is very agressive. I am SB with [5h] [7h]. It checks to me, I check flop is [8d] [6d] [4h]. I check Villian bets out $15, calling station calls. I check raise to $55, villain calls. Turn is [As], I lead out $80 and get called. I am going to stop here and get some reactions to this bet, after playing it back in my head I think I should have just gone all in. Betting $80 only leaves me $75 left and the pot is going to be $250 so I really cant fold the river. Comments please.

doing it in small increments is ok, since you think he's solid he already has a made hand since theres no odds to draw with your short stack. you are sure to double up this way. (all assuming he is not drawing)

I push. A set would call you and you probalby push out the flush draw.

Are there 1 or 2 callers to your check raise?

I don't mind the smaller bet here. You keep an overpair in the hand and you charge a bad price for the flush draw. Even with implied odds he is getting less than 4-1. The argument against this is that if he has the flush draw you don't get paid off if he misses on the river. However, if you push all in on the turn he may not call with the flush draw anyways and you miss out on some extra money. I don't mind letting people draw against me as long as they are paying the wrong price because they are making a mistake and in the long run it ends up being plus EV.

Rhound... if he's a "solid player", there's NO WAY he's calling your check-raise and about 2/3 pot bet with a flush draw only... MAYBE he's got [Ad] [Jd] was betting out his draw, caught TP on the turn to stay in the hand...

If you think he's drawing ONLY, it's not a bad push... Hell, if he folds, you still make a nice little chunk with a SB special... If you think he's got a piece, I'd bet the same as you and probably push barring a HORRIBLE river card (ie... [Ad] )...

Thanks for the opinion, I would still like to hear more if anyone wants to give their 2 cents. Anyways results. River was a diamonds, I checked hoping he would too, he pushs all I am pot committed and have to call her had [8d] [5d], so he had top pair a gut shot and a flush draw and caught his flush draw on the river.

first of all, i would check his other sleeve b/c there are two [8d] out.

anywho, if i got this right, there is about $135 in the pot on the turn. you have $155 left. oh definitely do not go all-in. you only need to protect against a flush draw that he may not have. i don't want him folding a dead hand; i want to coax all the money in sometime over the last two streets. i would've bet slightly more than you did (say $90), but that's nitpicking.

I'm assuming the flop was [8h] [6d] [4d] ... that would make more sense (and would avoid cheating... :D )... So, he figures you probably have 2pr or trips there... So, he figures he has 9 flush outs and 3 7s to definitely win the hand + POSSIBLY 2 other 8s (for trips over your hopefully 2pr)... That MAY be enough for him (probably not me) to call the flop... When you lead out for $80 on the turn, he's probably got you on flopped 2pr and possibly A8 for top 2... He's calling $80 to win like $210, which is a bad call, especially considering that you don't really have any money behind you, thus no implied odds...

Sucks that he beat ya... But I think you can officially take him off your "pretty solid" list...

I think what MVP said makes sense except all I can think of is bouncing breasts.
